Malcolm Roach's Biography

Born on June 9, 1998, Malcolm Roach is recognized as a proficient defensive tackle in American professional football. He currently plays for the Denver Broncos, a notable team in the National Football League (NFL). This is however just one part of the story that has seen him emerge from a promising college football player to making his mark on the NFL’s grand stage.

Hailing from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Malcolm was the proud son of Nancy and Mike Roach. He learned the fundamentals of football under his father’s guidance, honing his skills at Madison Prep. Such was the level of his performance and talent in these early years, he was acknowledged as an all-state selection four times.

Roach’s commendable performance at Madison Prep opened up new opportunities for him, including a chance to play for the renowned Texas Longhorns for four memorable seasons. Herein, Roach started making a reputation for himself as an exceptional defensive tackle not only within his team but also in the larger college football landscape. Throughout his college career, Roach proved his mettle on the field, accumulating impressive statistics: he made a total of 134 tackles, including 22.5 tackles for loss and 8.0 sacks.

Despite not being drafted, Roach never let go of his NFL dreams. On April 27, 2020, those dreams came a step closer to reality when he was signed as a free agent by the New Orleans Saints. His performance in the team’s training camp was such that he made the cut to be a part of the team for the official NFL season.

Roach made his much-awaited NFL debut on September 13, 2020, elbow-to-elbow with his team against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during the season opener. His career, however, met with a challenge on November 20, 2021, when Roach was placed on injured reserve. Despite the setback, his journey with the Saints was not quite done. He was released on December 7, but soon found himself back, re-signed to the practice squad. In early 2022, Roach signed a reserve/future contract with the Saints, indicating a promising career ahead.

Roach’s journey was however filled with trials and tribulations. On September 1, 2022, he found himself back on the injured reserve list, only to be enveloped by relief when he was activated on October 8, 2022. Unfortunately, Roach did not receive a qualifying offer post-season, which led him to become a free agent on March 15, 2023.

However, the Saints saw value in Roach and re-signed him just a week later, on March 22, 2023. But as fate would have it, Roach’s injury troubles resurfaced, landing him on the injured reserve yet again on December 6, 2023.

Despite facing several setbacks, Roach’s career saw a new dawn on March 14, 2024, when he was offered a two-year contract by the Denver Broncos. The evolution in Roach’s career from an undrafted player to signing with the Broncos illustrates his tenacity and the unyielding spirit it takes to succeed in the gritty world of professional football.
