Lucas Krull's Biography

Lucas Krull was born on July 11, 1998, in Shawnee, Kansas. He developed a passion for sports at a young age, playing both football and baseball during his years at Mill Valley High School. After his initial commitment to join the Arkansas baseball team fell through, he resolved to dedicate his focus toward football, thus marking the beginning of a career that would see him playing for some of the most prestigious teams in college and professional football.

Despite his base in Kansas, Lucas didn’t stay bound to his home state. He moved to Missouri to attend Jefferson College, where he first played junior football for a year, before securing a spot on the Florida team. Due to his rare and valuable skill set as a left-handed pitcher, Lucas managed to juggle both baseball and football at college. He stood out in baseball, achieving an impressive 27 strikeouts over 16 and 2/3 innings. His performance didn’t go unnoticed; in fact, it led to the San Francisco Giants drafting him in the 34th round of the 2018 MLB June Amateur Draft.

However, Lucas’s love for football remained strong. Thus, he continued to play football at Florida, between 2018 and 2020, after which he transferred to Pittsburgh. In 2020, he sustained a knee injury that put him on the sidelines for the majority of the season. But instead of letting this setback halt his career progression, Lucas used this as motivating fuel, recovering and retraining until he earned second-team All-ACC accolades in 2021. That year marked a triumphant return for Lucas, as he started 11 out of 14 games and recorded an impressive 38 receptions for 451 yards (11.9 average), and six touchdowns.

As the 2022 NFL draft arrived, Lucas wasn’t picked. Yet, the New Orleans Saints recognized his potential and signed him on as an undrafted free agent. The Saints had reportedly been impressed by his pro day, during which he showcased his athleticism, ball skills, and speed — epitomized by his 4.54-second 40-yard dash. Although he was initially relegated to the final roster cuts, Lucas returned swiftly to the Saints’ practice squad. On December 5, he was elevated to the active roster and made his NFL debut against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, participating in 11 snaps. His steadfastness was rewarded with a reserve/future contract signing on January 9, 2023.

However, Lucas’s journey with the Saints ended sooner than expected. On August 29, 2023, he was waived by the team. Two days later, he signed onto the Denver Broncos’ practice squad. Finally, on December 15, he was elevated to the active roster, thereby reigniting his energetic career in the National Football League (NFL).
