Josh Allen is the Buffalo Bills’ starting quarterback and wears No. 17. Born May 21, 1996, in Firebaugh, California, he is listed at 6 feet 5 inches and 237 pounds. Allen took an unconventional route to major college football, spending the 2014 season at Reedley College before joining Wyoming in 2015. He played three seasons for the Cowboys and earned a communications degree from the University of Wyoming.
Buffalo traded up to select Allen with the seventh overall pick in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft. His combination of size, exceptional arm strength and mobility made him a high-upside prospect. Those traits remain central to his playing style: he can attack downfield, deliver throws with velocity and extend plays as a powerful runner outside the pocket.
Allen developed into the centerpiece of Buffalo’s offense and was named the AP NFL Most Valuable Player for the 2024 season. On March 9, 2025, the Bills announced a new agreement keeping him under contract with Buffalo through 2030. As of September 12, 2026, both the Bills and NFL roster pages list Josh Allen as an active Buffalo quarterback.
