Ben DiNucci

Benjamin Anthony DiNucci, known to the sports world as Ben DiNucci, was born on November 24th, 1996, and has since made his mark as an American professional football player performing in the position of a quarterback. Commencing his career as a college football player, he later joined the high-profile ranks of the National Football League (NFL). DiNucci is currently an unrestricted free agent.

Growing up in Gibsonia, Pennsylvania, DiNucci spent his formative years at Pine-Richland High School where he discovered his passion for football. He began playing for his high school football team and by the time he was a sophomore, he had become a starting quarterback. His prowess on the field continued to grow and by senior year, he had made a state record by throwing for over 4,000 yards in a season, a historic first in Pennsylvania with 46 touchdowns and nine interceptions.

DiNucci led his team to numerous victories, including a 15–1 record, and a state AAAA championship game appearance. His outstanding performance in his senior year won him the 2014–2015 Gatorade Player of the Year for the state of Pennsylvania. Besides this, he also bagged second-team USA TODAY All-American, Pennsylvania Sports Writers Class AAAA Player of the Year, and Pennsylvania Football News Class AAAA Offensive Player of the Year honors.

Summing up his high school career, he had managed 548 completions out of 809 attempts for 7,619 yards, and delivered 72 touchdowns. Initially intending to attend the University of Pennsylvania, DiNucci changed his decision upon receiving a football scholarship from the University of Pittsburgh under the newly appointed head coach, Pat Narduzzi.

Redshirted as a freshman, DiNucci played as a backup quarterback behind Nathan Peterman at Pittsburgh. His first actual experience of a game came in the final offensive series against Duke University. Unfortunately, a defeat was to come in the 2016 Pinstripe Bowl with Northwestern University, in spite of DiNucci’s best efforts.

Thereafter, DiNucci was named the starting quarterback just before the seventh game against North Carolina State University, after Max Browne, the senior, suffered a shoulder injury. Struggles ensued throughout the season, and he lost his starting position to newcomer Kenny Pickett.

Unflinching in the face of adversity, DiNucci transferred to James Madison University. Here as a junior, he started all 13 games at quarterback, demonstrating his commendable skills and agility. By his senior year, he had made 3,441 yards, 29 passing touchdowns, completed nearly 71% of his throws, and had 122 carries for 569 yards and seven rushing touchdowns.

The 2020 NFL draft saw him being selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the seventh round. He made his NFL debut in a game with the Arizona Cardinals, appearing as relief for Andy Dalton.

Continuing his NFL journey, he had the opportunity to start on Sunday Night Football against the Philadelphia Eagles. Though the Cowboys failed to score a victory, DiNucci showcased his skills by completing 21-of-40 passes for 180 yards.

Career shifts followed, and the 2023 XFL Draft saw DiNucci being allocated in the opening phase. He was subsequently chosen by the XFL’s Seattle Sea Dragons and helped the team secure a playoff berth with a commendable 7–3 record. DiNucci would go on to establish his prowess as a quarterback, leading the league in passing yards, completions, and interceptions.

Venturing into the NFL yet again, he signed with the Denver Broncos after participating in the team’s rookie minicamp on a tryout basis. It was a short stint, and in August 2023, he had to leave the team to rejoin as part of the practice squad for future ventures.

DiNucci continued to manoeuver his career intricately, and on May 8, 2024, after being waived by the Broncos, he signed with the Buffalo Bills. DiNucci was signed in place of Shane Buechele who had suffered a neck injury. However, like the Broncos, his time with the Bills was also short-lived, and he was released soon after his joining.

Proving his resilience and veneration for the game, DiNucci continues to navigate the intricate world of professional football. Despite the ups and downs, he remains steadfast in his commitment to the sport, demonstrating his ability to adapt and change according to the situational requirements of his career.
