Born September 15, 1998, in Oak Park, Kansas, Epenesa attended Edwardsville High School in Illinois before playing at the University of Iowa. Iowa lists him at 6 feet 6 inches and 280 pounds as a defensive end. He was recognized as an All-Freshman Big Ten selection and later earned first-team All-Big Ten honors during his junior season, while also receiving multiple All-America selections.
The Buffalo Bills selected Epenesa in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft with the 54th overall pick. At Iowa, he developed a reputation as a powerful, versatile edge defender whose size and strength allowed him to pressure quarterbacks and contribute against the run.
