Jonathan Donald Weeks, an accomplished American professional football long snapper, has continuously extended his remarkable career since his birth on February 17, 1986. Known to fans and watchers of the National Football League (NFL) as a stalwart player of the Houston Texans, he has made a name for himself with his prowess on the field. While he entered professional football as an undrafted free agent in 2010, his unwavering commitment and perseverance allowed him to overcome initial hurdles and secure a coveted spot on the Texans’ roster.

Born and raised in the American Southwest, Jon Weeks attended Mountain Ridge High School in Glendale, Arizona. It was during these formative years that he developed a passion for football, earning a four-year letterer for the Mountain Lions football team, fulfilling major roles as an offensive and defensive lineman. Despite only standing at 5’8, he made significant impacts at both positions due to his exceptional skills and determination.

Aside from football, he displayed exceptional physical strength and endurance, earning a four-year letterer in powerlifting. After achieving statewide recognition in his senior year, including Arizona’s all-state offensive line honor, the title of the best defensive lineman in the state, and Arizona’s two-way MVP, Weeks moved on to his next challenge.

Despite his high achievement and obvious talent, his size deterred many D1 offers. Undeterred, Weeks walked on at Baylor University and subsequently earned a spot on the football team following a successful tryout. His college career saw a shift from initially practicing as a defensive end and middle linebacker to becoming the team’s long snapper, a position in which he thrived.

Throughout his time at Baylor, Weeks proved himself to be a linchpin of the team. His outstanding performance on the field ensured his full scholarship from his sophomore year onward, cementing his position in every long snap for the remainder of his college career, barring an illness-induced hiatus in his junior year. His leadership skills were acknowledged when he was elected as Baylor’s special teams captain during his senior year. He also distinguished himself as one of the best long snappers in college football, highlighting his commitment to enhancing his performance. As an added testament to his versatility, Weeks recorded six tackles and a forced fumble in his college career.

Following college, Weeks faced yet another bout of adversity. He remained undrafted in the 2008 NFL draft and even after a minicamp trial with the Detroit Lions, he didn’t secure a spot on the team. However, he never lost sight of his ultimate dream. After spending 2008 and 2009 away from professional football, he snapped up an opportunity to sign with the Houston Texans on April 28, 2010, eventually making the roster after an impressive training camp performance.

Weeks re-signed with the Texans in March of 2012, and again in September 2015 to a lucrative four-year, $3.9 million contract extension, marking another milestone in his career journey. In January 2016, he received well-deserved recognition by being selected for his first Pro Bowl.

In the 2018 season opener against the New England Patriots, Weeks smashed a Texans franchise record by participating in his 129th consecutive game. His record-breaking streak did not end there; it is ongoing and marks his profound impact on the Texans.

Weeks’ dedication to the Texans is evident through his multiple re-signings with the team, from March 2020, releasing only in September before re-signing two days later; and again within less than a year in March 2021 and February 2022. In Week 7 against the Tennessee Titans, Weeks celebrated playing in his 200th career NFL game.

Fast-forward to February 2024, and Weeks is still demonstrating his commitment to the Texans, signing a one-year deal for the 2024 season, marking an astounding 15 years with the team.
