In his sophomore year, 2019, Mukuamu received the honor of starting the season opener at the safety position, before shifting to right cornerback, playing opposite future NFL player Jaycee Horn. In 2020, as a junior, Mukuamu switched between the positions of cornerback and safety over five starts in six games. However, a recurring groin injury limited his performance.
