Explore NFL player picksIsrael Mukuamu Bio
Israel Mukuamu is an American football defensive back born November 28, 1999. He played at Parkway High School in Bossier City, Louisiana, before attending the University of South Carolina. Listed at 6-foot-4 1/8 and 212 pounds during the 2021 draft process, Mukuamu entered the NFL with unusual length for a defensive back. Dallas selected him in the sixth round, 227th overall, of the 2021 NFL Draft. His South Carolina résumé included second-team All-SEC recognition in 2019, highlighted by a decisive showing in the Gamecocks’ October 12, 2019 upset at Georgia.
Mukuamu began his NFL career with the Cowboys, where he developed as a versatile member of the secondary rather than being limited to one spot. Dallas described him as capable of handling safety, nickel corner and outside-corner responsibilities. He later spent time with Carolina during the 2025 season, including a practice-squad stint and a special-teams appearance. Pittsburgh then signed Mukuamu to a one-year contract on August 6, 2026, but its official transaction log lists his release on August 24, 2026. As of September 15, 2026, that release is the latest verified team transaction, so no current NFL team is identified here.
