Given his impressive performances in the CFL, he sparked the interest of the Dallas Cowboys who signed him in 2018 to take over for Dan Bailey, the second-most accurate kicker in NFL history. In 2019, the performance level seemed slightly inconsistent compared to the previous year. Maher missed ten field goals, a notably high number which eventually led to his release from the team in December 2019. However, Maher’s release did not capture the full spectrum of his competence as a player, and he remained a desirable pick for various other teams in the NFL.
