Deionte Thompson's Biography

Deionte Thompson, born on February 11, 1997, is a determined spirit in the realm of American professional football. Significantly recognized for his role as a safety, he is currently a free agent. His journey through the world of football began at a young age and encompasses high school and college, along with professional stints that showcase his prodigious talent.

Thompson hails from West Orange, Texas, where he attended West Orange-Stark High School and made a substantial mark in the school’s football legacy. Notably, his high school career boasts 15 interceptions, a testament to his decisive understanding of the game and alert defensive capabilities.

His remarkable skills caught the attention of the University of Alabama, and Thompson committed to play college football for them, joining the notable Alabama Crimson Tide team. He redshirted his first year in 2015, a common practice allowing athletes to extend their period of eligibility.

Exploding back onto the scene in 2016, he participated in 14 games, recording nine tackles, indicating a strong return. His sophomore year in 2017 saw him again playing in 14 games. However, this time he had two starts and managed to bag 25 tackles and an interception. This reflected his evolution as a player and persistent improvement in his game.

The year 2018 marked a significant milestone in Thompson’s career as he took over as a starter. Participating in 14 games this year, Thompson showcased his skills with 78 tackles and recorded 2 interceptions. His constant development and dominance on the field were gradually building him into a force to be reckoned with.

After a successful 2018 season, in a bold move, Thompson decided to skip his senior year at the University to chase his dreams in the National Football League (NFL). His decision was well-monitored by numerous teams in the NFL.

After much anticipation, the Arizona Cardinals selected Thompson in the fifth round (139th overall) of the 2019 NFL draft, a significant form of recognition for his outstanding talent and potential. He demonstrated eagerness to contribute in his rookie season, appearing in 11 games and recording 18 tackles.

However, his journey was not exempt from challenges. On November 24, 2020, Thompson was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list by his team. It was a challenging period, but he made a healthy recovery and was activated on December 3, showcasing his resilience.

Further down his career path, on September 27, 2022, Thompson was waived by the Cardinals. Though a setback, he accepted this with a sporting spirit and aimed to bounce back.

His perseverance paid off, and on October 19, 2022, he was signed to the practice squad of the Jacksonville Jaguars, allowing him another opportunity to showcase his talent at a professional level. On May 16, 2023, albeit, Thompson was released by the Jaguars.
