Darrel Williams's Biography

Darrel Williams is a powerful figure in American professional football. Born on April 15, 1995, Williams has had a strong career as a running back in American football, currently a free agent. His journey began in his hometown, Marrero, Louisiana at John Ehret High School, where he proved to be a standout player. As a four-star recruit, he astoundingly amassed 2,036 yards and scored 27 touchdowns in his senior year alone.

His impressive high school career caught the attention of several universities, and he was flooded with offers. Major universities such as Arizona State, Wisconsin, Tennessee, and Florida approached him, but he decided to join the LSU Tigers. Williams literally hit the ground running in college, contributing to his freshman season at LSU as part of a four-player running back rotation.

His career took a more pronounced turn on October 1, 2016, in a game against Missouri where he showcased impressive athleticism, carrying the ball 21 times, covering 130 rushing yards, and scoring three touchdowns. He further demonstrated his versatility by stepping into starting games as a senior to replace an injured Derrius Guice.

Williams etched his name into LSU history on October 21, 2017, against Ole Miss, when he became the first player to record a minimum of 100 rushing and 100 receiving yards in one game. This feat helped punctuate his time at LSU, drawing the curtain on the 2017 season with an invitation to play in the prestigious 2018 Senior Bowl.

The 2018 NFL draft saw a surprising turn of event – Williams was overlooked and went undrafted. However, undeterred, Williams was signed by the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent on May 5, 2018. He made good use of this opportunity with 44 rushing yards and scored a receiving touchdown in his rookie season.

In 2019, despite experiencing a hamstring injury that put him on injured reserve on December 5, he managed to rack up significant performance stats, notably during Week 4 of the season. It was during this year that the Chiefs clinched their first Super Bowl championship in 50 years.

2020 had its highs and lows for Williams. He ended the season with 169 rushing yards and a single rushing touchdown along with 116 receiving yards. Despite the team’s loss at Super Bowl LV to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, his performance was an asset for the Chiefs.

He inked a one-year contract extension with the Chiefs on March 16, 2021, raising the bar for himself with career-high numbers. He finished the season with 558 rushing yards, six rushing touchdowns, and even showed prowess as a receiver with 452 yards and two receiving touchdowns to his name.

On May 31, 2022, Williams took another significant step in his career by signing a one-year contract with the Arizona Cardinals. His time at the Cardinals was short-lived as he was placed on injured reserve on November 2 of the same year. He was then released by the Cardinals on August 15, 2023, only to sign with the New Orleans Saints days later.
