Daniel Sorensen, born on March 5, 1990, is a well-acclaimed American football safety known for his dynamic play style and strategic gameplays. Being a free agent, Sorensen had a glorious journey of transforming from a bright-eyed collegiate player to a recognized professional athlete standing tall within the fierce realm of American football.

Hailing from California, Sorensen’s ascend to stardom began at a young age as he left his home state to join Brigham Young University (BYU), firmly deciding to pursue his passion for football. His college football journey spanned four memorable years where he emerged as a four-year letterman, leaving a notable mark in the school’s football history. As a testament to his skills and commitment, he played in a remarkable number of 51 games, recording an impressive 211 tackles, 122 of which were solo, eight interceptions, a school-record of 23 passes defended, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries, along with a stellar 1.0 sack. The culmination of his dedication and/teammanship led to him being named team captain and securing first-team Phil Steele All-Independent honors as a senior.

Following his graduation, Sorensen, unfortunately, went undrafted in the 2014 NFL draft, a slight hiccup in his then-prospective professional career. However, fortune favors the brave. He was courted by multiple football teams but amidst the flurry of offers, Sorensen chose the one that recognized his potential – The Kansas City Chiefs. On May 11, 2014, Sorensen was signed on by the Chiefs with a two-year contract worth $930,000, a decision he based on a personal call he received from the head coach Andy Reid himself, showcasing their faith in him.

Sorenson’s journey with the Chiefs was not a straightforward one, as he would quickly learn that professional football was a different beast altogether. He had to fight for a roster spot as a backup safety, battling athletes like Sanders Commings, Jerron McMillian, and Malcolm Bronson. However, his commitment and hard work unexpectedly found an ally in the misfortune of others – when Commings aggravated a foot injury, missing the majority of training camp, Sorensen quickly filled the vacancy.

He started for three preseason games as a robust safety in place of Eric Berry, who was sidelined due to a heel injury. Sorensen impressively held the fort, recording five combined tackles and a pass deflection during the preseason game against the Green Bay Packers. After an intense battle for a place in the roster, Sorensen emerged on top, winning the position of backup strong safety, a testament to his indomitable spirit and hard work.

His professional career began with a debut game against the Tennessee Titans, where he recorded his first career tackle. In the tide of his career, he faced hurdles, experienced highs and lows; from being waived due to blunders on the field to being re-signed and promoted, Sorensen stood tall, resilient with the fortitude to impact the game.

He continued to build and cement his position over the years, recording his first career sack, interception, and touchdown, earning further contracts, and even taking on the position of a starting safety. Throughout his career, Sorensen has had significant contributions, like his capitalization on a fumble by the opponent’s kick returner during the second quarter of their 16–10 loss against the Titans. His most memorable defense came at the Super Bowl LIV, where he held the challenging position of defending the Pro Bowl tight end, George Kittle.

In 2021, Sorensen re-signed with the Chiefs, this time taking on the role of a third safety behind Tyrann Mathieu and Juan Thornhill. His hard work saw him playing in all 17 games with seven starts, recording 51 tackles, one sack, eight passes defended, and two interceptions.

In the following year, Sorensen signed with the New Orleans Saints, continuing his commitment, passion, and dedication towards football. However, as fate would have it, he would later sign with the Saints’ practice squad and was released in December 2023.

Beyond the football pitch, Sorensen leads a fulfilling life. Raised by his parents, Kory and Roxann Sorensen, in Grand Terrace, California, he inherited the strong family values that continue to guide his way. His family includes a sister named Emily and four brothers named Trevan, Bryan, Cody, and Brad. Infused with a spirit of service, Sorensen served a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in San Jose, Costa Rica. Following his family’s footsteps, his older brother, Brad Sorensen, too embarked on a football apprenticeship, playing college football at Southern Utah, making the Sorensen name synonymous with football.
