Ryder Anderson

Ryder Patrick Anderson was born on October 15, 1998 in Katy, Texas. The American-born athlete is well recognized as a professional football player who plays as a defensive end for the New Orleans Saints team in the National Football League (NFL). Ryder is well-known for his dedication and prowess on the football field, climbing up the ranks from a high school quarterback to a professional NFL player in a span of a few years.

The sport of football held a prominent place in the Anderson household, as Ryder’s older brother Rodney was all-state running back while the younger Anderson’s uncle is Mark Anderson. The brothers were able to pivot their family’s passion for football into success and recognition at the local level. Both Ryder and Rodney reaped separate victory at the state championships in 2012 and 2015 respectively, representing Katy High School, a football dynasty in Texas.

Ryder initially embraced his high school football career as a quarterback. However, as he gradually outgrew the position, he transitioned into a defensive lineman under the direction of his head coach. This game-changing move allowed Ryder to demonstrate his versatility as a player and helped him to increase his visibility to college scouts.

In November 2016, Ryder committed his college career to the Ole Miss football team where he established himself as a formidable defensive presence. During his time with Ole Miss, he made a remarkable record of 98 tackles, 15 losses, 9.5 sacks, a defended pass, a fumble recovery, and a forced fumble.

Ryder’s college career took a new turn in January 2021, when he entered the college football transfer portal. Four days later, he transferred to Indiana University, where he continued to impress on the field. At Indiana, Ryder had 47 tackles, a 7.5 loss, 2.5 sacks, and a forced fumble. His cumulative college record included 147 total tackles, 22.5 total losses, 9.5 total sacks alongside a recovered fumble, a defended pass, and two forced fumbles.

After a noteworthy college football trajectory, Ryder decided to push his boundaries further and declared for the 2022 NFL draft following the 2021 season. Despite not being selected in the 2022 NFL draft, Ryder remained hopeful for his career. He was signed as an undrafted free agent by the New York Giants on May 14, 2022. Although waived on August 30, 2022, Ryder remained tenacious, which led him to be signed to the practice squad the following day. Eventually, he was promoted to the active roster in December 2022, following impressive performances against the Baltimore Ravens and the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Ryder later faced another wave of uncertainty in 2023 when he was waived by the Giants on August 29. However, he was immediately re-signed to the practice squad where he diligently honed his skills. The Giants acknowledged his dedication and performance by signing him to a reserve/future contract at the end of the regular 2023 season, before letting him go due to injury in August 2024.

Ryder’s professional journey then led him to join the practice squad of the New Orleans Saints in November 2024, thus adding another milestone in his cherished football career.

Despite the many ups and downs of Ryder Anderson’s career, his unyielding spirit, tenacity and dedication to the sport of football have made him a key figure in American football.
