Calvin Throckmorton

Calvin Throckmorton was born in Bellevue, Washington on August 16, 1996. As an American professional football player, he’s built a prolific career as an offensive guard, most notably for the Denver Broncos in the National Football League (NFL). His journey from childhood in Washington to the professional league denotes a tale of relentless dedication, strategic shifts, immense talent, and inspiring perseverance.

Throckmorton’s football career began as early as high school. Attending Newport High School, he invested his time, skill, and passion in playing both the offensive and defensive line for the school’s football team. His potential did not go unseen – renowned sports utilities such as Rivals, 247Sports, Scout, and ESPN all rated him as a highly promising three-star prospect.

As Throckmorton’s high school years saw completion, he received offers from universities such as Arizona, Arizona State, Boise State, Michigan, and Miami. However, he committed to play college football at the University of Oregon, embarking on a transformative collegiate journey that would hone his skill and ready him for the professional league.

As a freshman, Throckmorton opted to redshirt his first season at Oregon. This strategic pause didn’t slow down his career pace as he started all 12 games in the following year and was honored with the title of Honorable Mention All-Pac-12 Conference. Throckmorton continued showcasing his mettle in his redshirt sophomore season, beginning as right tackle and transitioning to right guard for the concluding games. His performance awarded him another honorable mention in the All-Pac-12 conference.

Throckmorton’s redshirt junior season was eventful, showcasing his versatility on the field. He became the only FBS player to start four different offensive line positions, including right tackle, left tackle, right guard, and center. Pro Football Focus (PFF) ranked him as the fourth-best offensive tackle in college football. His performance earned him significant recognition, including being named a second-team All-American by the FWAA, Phil Steele, and PFF, and first-team All-Pac-12 by the Associated Press.

Entering his redshirt senior season, Throckmorton attracted attention from several quarters, including being placed on the watch list for the Outland Trophy and receiving the title of Preseason All-American by AP and PFF. USA Today named him as the fifth-best offensive line prospect for the 2020 NFL draft.

In April 2020, Throckmorton’s college career was punctuated as he entered the professional league, signing with the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent. Despite being waived in September 2020, he was signed to the practice squad the very next day. In 2021, Throckmorton made his NFL debut in the Saints’ season opener against the Green Bay Packers. His quick adaption and talent saw him play as the starting right guard for four games and later transitioning to the starting left guard after Andrus Peat’s injury.

Throckmorton’s tenure with the Saints came to an end in August 2023, paving the way for him to join the Carolina Panthers shortly after. His time at Panthers was short-lived, and he was claimed off waivers by the Tennessee Titans in November 2023. However, in April 2024, Throckmorton found a new home with the Denver Broncos.

Despite initially being released in August, Throckmorton was re-signed to the Broncos’ practice squad, propelling him towards his current journey with the Denver Broncos.
