DaMarcus Fields's Biography

DaMarcus F. Fields, a standout athlete hailing from Taylor, Texas, was born on March 11, 1998. A multitasking sportsman from a young age, Fields exhibited potential not only in football, but also basketball and track during his time at Taylor High School. His hard work translated into remarkable results; he competed in varsity football for two seasons, achieving recognition as a 14-4A first-team all-district selection and earning the title of second-team all-Central Texas in accordance with the Austin American-Statesman. Fields made a lasting impression in his senior year, racking up 101 tackles, a total of four interceptions and eight forced fumbles.

Following his remarkable high school career, Fields joined the ranks at Texas Tech, redshirting his 2016 freshman year as part of the scout team. The following year, he made his mark as a cornerback, appearing in all 13 games. Fields made impressive stats throughout the season with 51 tackles, two fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles, and one interception.

Following his exceptional performance, Fields was recognized nationally, ranking first in the conference, and 26th across the country for his fumble recovery total. He also won the esteemed title of Big 12 Conference’s Newcomer of the Week after a phenomenal interception return touchdown against Oklahoma State.

Fields’ robust performance continued in his sophomore year in 2018 as he started in all 12 games. He accomplished a total of 38 tackles and was second on the team in passes defended. In his 2019 season, Fields continued to mark his spot, breaking the team’s record with five passes broken up, which made him receive honorable mention in all-conference selection again.

Fields was met with the trying times of the COVID-19 pandemic in his senior year but decided to return in 2021. He played in 12 games, demonstrated his talent with 50 tackles, and led his team with 11 pass breakups, leading to his recognition as second-team all-conference at the end of the year.

His exemplary performance earned him the honor to participate in the East–West Shrine Bowl and an invitation to the NFL Combine. Fields’ college career was rounded off with a total of 224 tackles, several forced fumbles and recoveries, interceptions, and numerous passes defended.

After the 2022 NFL draft, Fields got a chance to sign with the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent. Unfortunately, he was waived shortly after but swung back to the practice squad before being elevated to the active roster to play against the Carolina Panthers. He was later signed again to the active roster, and then signed onto the Washington Commanders’ practice squad.

In January 2023, Fields signed a reserve/future contract, but not without a few more curveballs thrown his way. Come August the same year, he was released as part of the final roster cuts. But Fields’ relentless drive and ingenious skills on the field ushered him into another exciting opportunity in March 2024, when he was picked by the Saskatchewan Roughriders, a leading team in the Canadian Football League. With each experience, Fields pushes boundaries and continues to make tremendous strides in his remarkable football career.
