Andre Chachere's Biography

Andre Maleek Chachere, born on February 10, 1996, is an American professional football player who is currently providing his services as a safety for the Jacksonville Jaguars of the National Football League (NFL). With his roots originating from Fresno, California, Andre completed his early education at Clovis West High School. He inherited his love for sports from his father, Derrick Chachere, who has had a fruitful career of seven seasons in the Arena Football League from 1995 to 2002.

Following in his father’s footsteps, Andre’s interest drew him to football, where he spent his time honing the emblematic skills and strategies associated with the game. His passion for football led him to be enrolled at the San Jose State University, where he represented San Jose State Spartans from 2014 to 2017, playing as a cornerback. Despite being primarily chosen for the special team in his first season, Andre was not held back. His determination landed him a starting position for his last three seasons at the university.

Throughout his university career, he played 49 games, registering a total of 122 tackles, 4.5 tackles for a loss of 14 yards, and three forced fumbles. His talent didn’t stop there—he also made seven interceptions for 169 yards and defended 27 passes, earning himself a reputation as a highly effective defensive player. Andre’s skills were clearly showcased in the 2015 Cure Bowl, where his game-changing interception in the end zone in the final minute led San Jose State to a hard-fought victory (27-16) over Georgia State. He furthered his achievement by graduating in May 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in communication studies.

In the days that followed, Andre signed with the Houston Texans as an undrafted free agent on May 11, 2018, but was dropped to the practice squad the next day. His tenacity remained unfazed—he continued to strive, leading to his signing to the Detroit Lions practice squad in November 2018 and made it onto the active roster by the end of December.

After being waived from the Lions in August 2019, he strengthened his portfolio by joining the Arizona Cardinals practice squad in September and then the Carolina Panthers’ practice squad the next month. The Cardinals recognized Andre’s potential and signed him off the Panthers practice squad in December 2019. Unfortunately, his stint with the Cardinals was short-lived, as he was released in May 2020. Despite this setback, he remained motivated and showcased his skills during his tryout with the Indianapolis Colts in August 2020 and Tennessee Titans later that month.

He was eventually signed by the Colts in August 2020, where he was able to secure a reserve/futures contract with the team in January 2021. However, he was waived by the Colts, which opened his path to the Philadelphia Eagles. Andre quickly adapted and fit into the Eagles team, taking on primary roles on special teams and serving as a backup nickelback and safety.

In 2022, after overcoming a brief hiccup due to COVID-19 protocols, he re-signed with the Eagles and continued his professional journey. After toggling between active rosters and practice squads, he signed a reserve/future contract with the Eagles in February 2023. Yet, his time with the Eagles ended with his waiver in May of that year.

This shift led Andre to the Cardinals once again, but he was waived in August 2023, only to be called back for the practice squad. After fluctuating between the practice squad and active roster, he was waived one final time by the Cardinals in August 2024.

But as a testament to his perseverance and commitment to the sport, Andre bounced back. On September 12, 2024, he was added to the Jacksonville Jaguars practice squad, ready to undertake a new journey in his ever-evolving football career.
