Tyrone Lewis Washington Jr., an eminent figure in the realm of professional basketball, was born on November 15, 2001. He hails from America and is currently signed with the Milwaukee Bucks, a team featured prominently in the National Basketball Association (NBA). This young athlete also holds two-way professional contract ties with the Wisconsin Herd, which is part of the NBA’s G League. Prior to embarking on his professional career, he demonstrated his skills on the college basketball court as a prominent player for the Kentucky Wildcats.

This talented player has enjoyed a distinguished reputation ever since the early stages of his basketball career. Testament to this are the numerous ratings from professional evaluators identifying him as a consensus five-star recruit. Furthermore, his outstanding performance categorizes him as one of the country’s top point guards in the 2021 class.

The city of Phoenix, Arizona’s Cesar Chavez High School was where Washington took his initial strides in playing the sport. His sophomore year averages were an impressive 23.2 points, 4.1 assists, 4.4 rebounds, and 3.3 steals per game. Following this, he transferred to AZ Compass Prep School in Chandler, Arizona, during his junior year. As a senior, Washington was an irreplaceable asset to his team, averaging 24 points, seven assists, and six rebounds per game. These impressive stats contributed to an exceptional season end record of 30 wins against just 2 losses. His skills were further acknowledged when he was named to the prestigious Jordan Brand Classic roster.

In November 2020, Washington publicized his commitment to play college basketball for Creighton. However, a subsequent incident involving racially insensitive remarks made by the head coach of the time, Greg McDermott, spurred Washington to decommit in March 2021. Finding a new college sports home, Washington announced his commitment to Kentucky in May 2021, choosing it over other strong offers from Arizona, Baylor, Kansas, LSU, and Oregon.

His time at Kentucky saw more significant milestones including a momentous game in January 2022 against Georgia where he recorded 17 points and 17 assists, surpassing John Wall’s single-game school record for assists. Shortly after, Washington notably scored 28 points against Tennessee, his career-high record. His average record as a freshman was also noteworthy, recording 12.5 points, 3.9 assists, and 3.5 rebounds per game. His talents were recognized when he was named to the Second Team All-SEC and All-Freshman Team. In April 2022, he decided to leave college basketball behind and declared for the 2022 NBA draft.

Washington was selected by the Memphis Grizzlies as their 29th pick during the 2022 NBA draft. Following his selection, Washington and Walker Kessler were swiftly traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Jake LaRavia. The Timberwolves further traded Washington to the Houston Rockets, receiving Wendell Moore in exchange. Ultimately, Washington made his preseason debut in a game against the San Antonio Spurs on October 2, 2022, where he scored eight points, three rebounds, and one assist.

July 2023 marked another shift in Washington’s professional journey as he was traded to the Atlanta Hawks as part of a complex five-team trade. Shortly after on July 12, he moved again this time to the Oklahoma City Thunder, traded alongside Usman Garuba, Rudy Gay, and a 2026 second-round pick for Patty Mills. However, his stint with the Thunder ended quickly as he was waived by the team in August.

The Milwaukee Bucks offered the next chapter in Washington’s expedition, signing him to a two-way contract on August 29, 2023. His journey serves as a testament to the unpredictability and dynamic nature of professional sports careers and represents a young talent making his mark in the NBA.
