Jalen Bridges

Jalen Lashaun Bridges is an iconic figure in the contemporary world of American professional basketball. Born on May 14, 2001, the game of basketball has been a primary facet in Bridges’ life, leading him to become a highly regarded player in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He is currently contracted by the Phoenix Suns, an eminent NBA team, not to mention his active two-way contract with the Valley Suns of the NBA G League.

Bridges’ journey through the realm of sports started during his young years. He sharpened his skills at Fairmont Senior High School in his hometown of Fairmont, West Virginia, where he played a pivotal role in leading his team to back-to-back Class AA state titles during his first two years. Beyond his already impressive performance, he further established his prowess averaging 21.6 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per game during his senior year. He was at the helm, guiding the team to taste the sweetness of a fourth straight state title game.

Bridges took home the coveted Bill Evans Award as the finest high school player in West Virginia, marking his potential and dedication. Recognized as a consensus four-star recruit, Bridges received offers from Miami (Florida), Indiana, Xavier and Alabama. But, he chose to nourish his passion for basketball closer to home by opting to play for West Virginia.

Despite initial plans for a postgraduate season, Bridges embarked on his freshman year at West Virginia as a redshirt. He stood out on March 4, 2021, striking freshman season-highs of 22 points and 12 rebounds in a game where they emerged victorious against TCU by a nine-point margin — 76-67. He averaged 5.9 points and 3.6 rebounds per game during his freshman year and garnered praise, earning him the Big 12 All-Freshman Team honors.

Still growing and consistently improving, the following year, as a sophomore, he upped the ante by averaging 8.4 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. However, he decided to transfer to Baylor University following the season. Bridges continued his upward trend in performance as he averaged 10.3 points and 5.6 rebounds per game in his junior year.

Bridges decided to dip his toes into professional basketball by declaring for the 2023 NBA draft, however he eventually chose to return to Baylor. In a display of persistent improvement, he averaged 12.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.1 blocks per game and was named to the Third Team All-Big 12.

In the 2024 NBA draft, Bridges wasn’t drafted but it didn’t deter his ambition or his path to professional basketball. Staying resolute and focused, he signed a two-way contract with the Phoenix Suns on July 4, 2024. This enabled Bridges to showcase his performance on a prominent platform, while still allowing him to grow his skills within the NBA G League with the Valley Suns.
