Jalen Green

Jalen Romande Green is an American professional basketball player who was born on February 9, 2002. He currently plays for the Houston Rockets in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Before his professional NBA career, Green was one of the most promising young players in the league, with numerous accolades and experience representing the United States at the junior level.

Green hails from Merced, California, and spent his early years in Livingston, California. His family eventually moved to Fresno, California, where his basketball journey started in sixth grade, playing Amateur Athletic Union basketball and devoting five hours each day to practice.

While at San Joaquin Memorial High School in Fresno, Green made his mark as a full-time starter during his freshman year, with an impressive average of 18.1 points and nine rebounds per game. His on-court contributions were vital in leading his team to the CIF Central Section Division II runner-up finish and the CIF Division II quarterfinals. His sophomore and junior years were equally impressive; he was named MaxPreps National Sophomore of the Year, USA Today All-USA California player of the year, among others.

Green switched to Prolific Prep in Napa, California, for his senior season, leading his team to secure the Grind Session World championship. His all-around performance made him a popular five-star recruit and the number one shooting guard in the 2020 class, according to major recruiting services. Despite receiving offers from several NCAA Division I basketball programs, Green decided to forgo college basketball and signed up for the NBA G League’s Ignite team, thus marking the start of his professional career.

His G League stint marked several milestones such as becoming the first player to join the new team, earning a lucrative contract, and being instrumental in the team’s games. However, it was the NBA Draft in 2021 that shot him to prominence. Green was selected as the second overall pick by the Houston Rockets, becoming the third NBA player of Filipino descent and marking the beginning of a prominent career in the NBA.

Green’s NBA career with the Houston Rockets started strong, earning him a coveted spot in the NBA All-Rookie First Team.
