Trevor Hudgins's Biography

Trevor Hudgins, born on 23rd March 1999, has made a name for himself as an accomplished American professional basketball player. Currently, he represents Le Mans in the LNB Élite and the Basketball Champions League (BCL), marking another notable chapter in his illustrious career.

Hudgins’ humble beginnings were in Manhattan, Kansas, where he was born to Sterling and Pat Hudgins. His father, a pastor, together with his mother, encouraged his early initiation into sports. As early as he could walk, Hudgins was seen handling a basketball – the start of a lifelong passion. Throughout his childhood, he displayed a love for a range of sports, dabbling in football, soccer, bowling, golf, and pool.

Manhattan High School was where Hudgins’ talent on the basketball court started to gain attention. During his freshman year, Benji George stepped in as the new head basketball coach. Recognizing Hudgins’ potential as a point guard, George gave him the opportunity to join the varsity team midway through the season. Under the tutelage of George, Hudgins’ play steadily improved, resulting in an impressive 18-3 record in his sophomore year and subsequent victory in the Centennial League championship. His evolving skills and remarkable ability to distribute the ball proved pivotal in leading the team to win two more Centennial League titles in his junior and senior years.

Despite his high school accolades, Hudgins surprisingly received no offers from NCAA Division I. Northwest Missouri State head coach, Ben McCollum, ultimately recognized Hudgins’ untapped potential and offered him a position at the university. After redshirting his freshman year, Hudgins hit the ground running in his debut collegiate game in November 2018 against the Northern State Wolves, leading the team with 25 points. His inaugural year concluded with impressive average figures of 18.7 points, 5.3 assists, and 2.3 rebounds per game. During these initial phases of his collegiate career, Hudgins notably broke the Bearcats’ single-season assist record and was acknowledged as the MIAA’s Freshman of the Year.

In addition to his personal achievements, Hudgins was instrumental in guiding the Bearcats to an undefeated 38-0 record, leading to their winning the 2019 NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Tournament. To cap his most successful year as a collegiate athlete, Hudgins was named the Division II Elite Eight Most Outstanding Player – a testament to his significant contribution to the team.

Hudgins continued his upward trajectory in the subsequent seasons. During the 2019-2020 season, he averaged 19.6 points and 6 assists per game, helping the Bearcats achieve a 31-1 record. Despite match cancellations due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Hudgins was recognized as the MIAA Player of the Year and was a finalist for the coveted Bevo Francis Award.

The following year, Hudgins received another MIAA Player of the Year award, making a significant impact with 19.8 points and 4.6 assists on average per game. The Bearcats thrived on the back of Hudgins’ leadership, securing another NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Championship. When Hudgins chose to return to the Bearcats for his senior year, he helped the team clinch a third consecutive national championship.

After declaring for the 2022 NBA draft, Hudgins’ professional debut came in the 2022-2023 season with the Houston Rockets. His commendable performance in the NBA drew attention from the Brooklyn Nets, leading to tryouts. Not long after, he signed a two-way contract with the Rockets, making history as the first player from Northwest Missouri State to sign an NBA contract.

However, Hudgins spent a large part of his rookie season with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers in the NBA G League, where he exhibited outstanding performances. After signing a second two-way contract with the Rockets, he decided to embark on a new journey by signing with Le Mans in the LNB Pro A. Hudgins concluded the 2023-24 season with an average of 12.6 points and 2.9 assists per game, an indicator of a bright future.

In the 2024 NBA Summer League, Hudgins played for the Los Angeles Clippers, showcasing his potential once again. His dedication and impact led to a second signing with Le Mans for the 2024-25 season, promising to add even more laurels to his name in the years to come. With a career as stellar as Hudgins’, it is clear he has indelibly carved his name in the annals of basketball history.
