RJ Barrett is a professional basketball player for the New York Knicks of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was born in Mississauga, Canada on June 14, 2000 to Rowan and Kesha Barrett. His mother was an accomplished athlete who competed in track and field events during her career at Florida State University.

Barrett attended Montverde Academy in Florida where he played high school basketball alongside fellow NBA prospects like Ben Simmons, De’Aaron Fox and Markelle Fultz. During his senior year he averaged 24 points per game while leading Montverde to the GEICO High School Nationals Championship title. Following this success, he was named Gatorade Player of The Year for all of high school basketball as well as being awarded with Mr. Basketball USA honors for 2019–20 season.

Barrett committed to Duke University where he had an exceptional freshman season averaging 22 points per game which earned him ACC Rookie Of The Year honors along with several other awards such as 2nd Team All-American from USA Today Sports and 3rd Team selection from Sporting News . At the conclusion of his first collegiate season Barrett declared himself eligible for the 2019 NBA draft where he would eventually be selected by New York Knicks with third overall pick making him one of only two Canadians ever taken that early after Andrew Wiggins’s 2014 selection by Cleveland Cavaliers at number one spot.

In 2020-21 NBA Season, RJ Barrett has started to show why he deserved being such a highly recruited player out of college highlights included 38 point performance against Indiana Pacers on March 7th 2021 making him youngest Knick since Stephon Marbury back in 1998–99 campaign at age 19 years old on that date.. Additionally so far this season career highs have been set multiple times including 55 percent shooting from three point range which puts him around league average level currently representing impressive development particularly considering fact that entering league his greatest weakness was perimeter shooting form outside arc due struggles finishing outside paint area consistently enough prior before coming into NBA environment .

Overall through two seasons already RJ Barrett demonstrated high ceiling potential that can hopefully be developed further during upcoming seasons under tutelage current coaching staffs as well help leadership veterans inside locker room something Knicks franchise can definitely use towards getting closer achieving ultimate goal winning championships near future .
