Gradey Dick

Gradey Reed Dick, born on November 20, 2003, is a prominent figure amidst America’s professional basketball players dominating the court for internationally renowned team, the Toronto Raptors. Widely recognised and appreciated for his skills, athleticism and dedication to the sport, he rose to prominence through his time with the Kansas Jayhawks where he played college basketball. Dick shone with his unwavering resolve and finesse on the court, winning him a well-deserved title of being a consensus five-star recruit in the class of 2022.

Throughout his career, from youth to professional leagues, the small forward has garnered numerous accolades and praise. One of his most notable achievements came in 2022 when he was awarded the Gatorade National Player of the Year in the boys’ category, esteemed as one of the top basketball players countrywide.

While Rhode Island may be his place of birth, Dick’s journey through high school in Kansas significantly shaped his prowess in basketball. He began his high school journey at Wichita Collegiate School where he studied and played basketball for two years. His laser-like focus and dedication were evident when he consistently scored an average of 20 points a game throughout his final year there, even leading the team to the state playoffs.

Dick then transferred to Sunrise Christian Academy, a decision that catapulted his reputation and skills even further. His two years at the academy were monumental, reflecting in his impressive average of 18 points a game during his senior year.

Between the two high schools, he caught the attention of several universities including Kansas, Iowa State, and Baylor. They all offered him basketball scholarships, appreciating his raw talent and potential. Through tireless training and determination, he secured a title as a five-star recruit during his tenure at Sunrise Christian Academy. On March 3, 2021, he accepted the challenging opportunity to play college basketball for Kansas. This decision came after contemplation of diverse options including offers from Florida and Illinois.

Dick made an impressive start to his college career. His debut game alone set him up for success where he scored 23 points and managed 2 rebounds, 2 steals, and 1 assist for the Jayhawks’ victory over Omaha. Remaining consistent throughout the season, his stellar performance earned him a spot in the Second Team All-Big 12, along with inclusion in the All-Newcomer and All-Freshman teams. During the 2023 NCAA tournament, he continued to show outstanding performance with an impressive record of 19 points, 11 rebounds, five assists, and three steals against Howard.

After completing his rookie season with admirable averages of 14.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game, he decided to declare himself for the 2023 NBA draft on March 31, 2023. His college stint had proven fruitful, giving him the comprehensive preparation that he needed for the grand NBA stage.

Dick’s talent did not go unnoticed, and on the night of the NBA draft, he landed the 13th overall pick by the Toronto Raptors. His NBA journey began at the 2023 NBA Summer League where he faced the Chicago Bulls with ten points, four rebounds, and two assists for the Raptors. He bounced back from a defeat in his first game with an impactful performance against the Golden State Warriors, aiding the Raptors’ win with his 21 points, five rebounds, and two steals.

After his stint with the Raptors, Dick was assigned to the Raptors 905 of the NBA G League. His performance varied early on, with a notably rough start in the game against Capital City Go-Go where his shot accuracy lapsed significantly. However, this defeat did not dampen his spirits. He exhibited resilience, putting up an impressive performance against the Maine Celtics that brought the first win of the season for Raptors 905 in December 2023.

Beyond stellar performances and statistics, Gradey Reed Dick is also a patriot. He proudly represented the United States at the 2021 FIBA 3×3 Under-18 World Cup in Debrecen, holding an average of 3.2 points which contributed to his team’s sweep of the gold medal.
