Reece Beekman's Biography

Reece Avery Beekman, born on October 8, 2001, has already paved a dynamic career in American sports industry. He is an outstanding basketball player, playing for the prestigious Golden State Warriors, a major team of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He also holds a two-way contract with Santa Cruz Warriors, a member of the NBA’s G League.

However, before his professional career took off, Beekman spent his collegiate years playing basketball for the Virginia Cavaliers. Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Beekman spent his childhood in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where he moved at the age of 13 with his mother and brother. Throughout his high school years, he immersed himself in the game, honing his basketball skills and positioning himself as a formidable player.

His high school career spent at Scotlandville High School is a testament to his talent and determination. Playing under the guidance of head coach Carlos Sample from 2017-20, Beekman’s leadership capabilities came to the fore. He steered his team, the Hornets, to a phenomenal 131-14 record. The team won four Louisiana High School Athletic Associate (LHSAA) 5A state championships under his stewardship.

The same period witnessed Beekman bagging the coveted Louisiana Mr. Basketball honors in 2019–20. His basketball prowess was on display as he averaged 19.4 points, 9.1 rebounds, 9.9 assists, 2.7 blocked shots, and 2.2 steals in his senior year. His commitment to the game was evident, setting the course for his future achievements.

In the Spring of 2018, Beekman, as a four-star recruit, began receiving college offers. Offers poured in from elite universities including Florida, LSU, Wisconsin, and USC. In late July 2018, Virginia extended an offer, which he accepted after an official visit in November 2018. However, Beekman wanted to weigh his options before fully committing. It took a few more months and a surprising decision before he pledged his commitment to Virginia on June 13, 2019. The final step in his college decision came when he signed his Letter of Intent to play at UVA on December 10, 2019.

Beekman’s college career started on August 1, 2020, at UVA. He quickly established himself as a star player, taking over as one of the starting guards early in the season. He notably hit a game-winning buzzer-beater to beat Syracuse and secure their advance into the ACC tournament semifinals. Beekman’s debut season at UVA was impressive, averaging 4.7 points, 2.8 rebounds, and three assists with a field shooting percentage of 38.2%. His stellar performances secured his place in the ACC All-Defensive Team. He also earned an Honorable Mention All-ACC as a sophomore.

Despite going undrafted in the 2024 NBA draft, Beekman’s basketball career took a fortunate turn upwards. He seized an opportunity to sign a two-way contract with the Golden State Warriors on July 3, 2024, marking the commencement of his professional career. Regardless of the trajectory his career takes from here, Beekman’s journey so far is enough to prove his talent, potential, and admirable tenacity.
