Quinndary Weatherspoon's Biography

Quinndary Vonta Weatherspoon, a Canton, Mississippi native, was born on the 10th of September 1996. He is part of the renowned American Weatherspoon family, son of Sharon and Tommie Weatherspoon, and brother to fellow basketball enthusiasts, Nick and Brandon. Quinndary’s love for the sport was first kindled during his middle school years.

His talent for basketball began to take shape at Velma Jackson High School, where he won three back-to-back state titles in the years 2012 to 2014 under the guidance of coach Anthony Carlyle. By the end of his high school years, his prowess on the court was being recognized, being ranked as the 116th in his class as a three-star recruit by Rivals.com. This propelled him towards the Mississippi State Bulldogs, a college team under the supervision of coach Ben Howland.

Quinndary’s college tenure was marked by notable performances, marked by his selection for the SEC All-Freshman Team. Across his first season, he averaged 12.0 points and 4.7 rebounds per game, playing alongside Malik Newman. The following season, despite an injury setback in a game against Boise State that required him to sit out a few games, he averaged 16.5 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. For these impressive stats, he was named to the Second Team All-SEC as a sophomore.

In his third year, Quinndary stepped up his game, averaging 14.4 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per starting game. His exceptional skills led him to win the Howell Trophy as the best player in Mississippi and being named to the second-team All-SEC. With the culmination of this season, he declared for the 2018 NBA draft.

However, he later chose to withdraw from the draft and return to Mississippi State, where he entered his senior season on a high. Here, his performances earned him the title of first-team All-SEC and enabled him to become just the third player in the program to score 2,000 career points.

His career marking moment came in June 2019, when he was selected with the 49th overall pick by the San Antonio Spurs in the 2019 NBA draft. In addition to joining the Spurs, he made a notable contribution in the 2019 NBA Summer League, eventually signing a two-way contract with the Spurs. Quinndary went on to have a formidable debut in NBA, scoring a whopping 30 points.

Before long, Quinndary caught the attention of the NBA giants, the Brooklyn Nets, and he joined them for the 2021 NBA Summer League. However, it was the Golden State Warriors that won him over. After an initial stint with the Santa Cruz Warriors, he was signed by the Golden State Warriors on a 10-day contract in December 2021. His consistent performances paid off when he eventually landed a two-way contract with the Warriors, helping the team clinch an NBA championship.

Over the years, Quinndary has had many notable associations, such as the Tianjin Pioneers and the Los Angeles Lakers on the international platform. In 2024, he switched gears towards the Chinese Basketball Association, first with the Zhejiang Lions, followed by Qingdao Eagles.

Besides his basketball career, Quinndary was a devoted student who majored in interdisciplinary studies during his time at college. His sporting prowess runs in the family. While Nick, his brother, played for Mississippi State, his younger brother Brandon followed suit at Florida Atlantic.
