Pete Nance's Biography

Pete Lucas Nance, an American professional basketball player acclaimed for his remarkable performance in the NBA G League for the Cleveland Charge, was born on the 19th of February, 2000. Beyond his professional capabilities in the sphere of basketball, Nance has also made a name for himself in the college basketball scene, demonstrating his prowess for Northwestern and North Carolina.

Nance grew up in Revere, where he attended high school and quickly gained recognition on the basketball court. In his senior season, he stood out as an impressive figure, being 6 feet 10 inches tall and weighing in at 205 pounds. His prowess led to a noteworthy year in high school basketball as he led Revere to its first-ever district championship. Subsequently, his extraordinary skill and leadership earned him the Ohio Division II Player of the Year award.

By June 29, 2017, Nance had elected to play for Northwestern Wildcats men’s basketball team beginning in the 2018–19 season. University of Michigan and the Ohio State University had offered Nance places on their teams due to his evident talents, but he remained committed to Northwestern. As a four-star recruit, ranked highest in the history of the Northwestern Wildcats program, Nance’s decision was momentous. Notably, Scout.com acknowledged him as the 83rd-best overall player and the 19th-best power forward in the nation. Similarly, 247Sports rated him 64th overall.

Nance’s debut exhibition against the McKendree Bearcats revealed his potential as he scored 12 points, grabbed eight rebounds, blocked three opponents, and stole four times within 19 minutes as a substitute. His first regular-season college basketball game saw him score three points and provide one assist in a victory against the New Orleans Privateers. This performance earned him another start in a game where unfortunately, the team did not come out on top against the Michigan Wolverines.

Despite the loss, his performance steadily improved in his sophomore year, with an average of 8.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. He excelled further as a junior, with average scores of 11.1 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game. An ankle injury did hamper his performance causing him to miss a critical game against Michigan State in January 2022.

By his senior year, Nance improved his average scores to 14.6 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. After participating in the 2022 NBA draft trials, he opted to return to college joining North Carolina’s team for his fifth collegiate season. His decision to join the Tar Heels was propelled by an NCAA rule enacted due to the COVID-19 pandemic, granting student-athletes an extra year of eligibility.

Although troubled by a persistent back injury, Nance still managed to start all 30 games played as a Tar Heel, averaging 10 points and 6 rebounds per game. His scoring average from the floor was recorded at 42%.

In the 2023 NBA draft, despite not being chosen, Nance was undeterred. He joined the Cleveland Cavaliers for the 2023 NBA Summer League and officially became a Cavalier on September 13, 2023. However, he was waived on October 21 but was picked up by the Cleveland Charge of the NBA G League after a week.

On January 18, 2024, Nance signed a 10-day contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers, following the footsteps of his father, Larry, and brother, Larry Jr., both former Cavaliers. However, he returned to the Cleveland Charge on January 30, only to sign a two-way contract with the Cavaliers on his birthday, February 19.

Nance signed a standard contract with the Cavaliers on September 24, 2024, only to be waived once more on October 19. However, staying resilient, he re-joined the Charge just seven days later. Today, being the son of Larry Nance and the younger brother of Larry Nance Jr., both NBA players, and having an older sister named Casey, he continues to prove the genetic prowess of his family in the world of basketball.
