Marcus Smart is an American professional basketball player who currently plays for the Boston Celtics of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was born on March 6, 1994 in Flower Mound, Texas and attended Marcus High School in his hometown. After a successful high school career where he won multiple accolades and awards, he declared himself eligible for the 2014 NBA draft and was selected sixth overall by the Celtics.

As a rookie with the Celtics, Smart immediately stepped into a key role as one of their main defensive contributors. His first season saw him average 7.8 points per game while providing excellent perimeter defense that earned him All-Rookie Second Team honors at end of season. But it was during his second year when Smart truly established himself as one of the best young defenders in the league when he finished third in total steals (1.8 per game) which earned him an All-Defensive Second Team selection at only 21 years old!
