BIOGRAPHY
Sam Hauser is an American professional basketball player who currently plays for the Atlanta Hawks of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was born on December 22, 1998 in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. Hauser attended Marquette University where he played college basketball and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.
Hauser started his collegiate career at Marquette under then-head coach Steve Wojciechowski from 2016 to 2020. During his freshman season, he averaged 9 points per game and made 46 3-pointers as one of only two freshmen to play in all 33 games that season. As a sophomore, Hauser upped his scoring numbers to 12 points per game while also increasing his rebounding numbers from 4 rebounds per game as a freshman to 6 rebounds per game as a sophomore. He was named Big East Most Improved Player during this season and also earned All-Big East Honorable Mention honors for the first time in his career.
In Sam’s junior year with the Golden Eagles, he continued to build off of what he had done during his first two seasons by averaging 14 points and 7 rebounds while shooting 45 percent from three point range on 5 attempts per contest; leading him to be named All-Big East First Team selection following this campaign. In addition, Sam was selected as part of USA Basketball’s World Cup Qualifying team in February 2019 which further enhanced his reputation among NBA scouts ahead of entering the 2020 draft class.
During Hauser’s senior year at Marquette, he again increased both his scoring average (16 ppg) and rebound average (8 rpg), earning him Third Team All-American honors by ESPN along with being named Big East Player of the Year for 2020 -21 season.. His excellent play throughout all four years at Marquette landed him on multiple preseason watchlists including that for Naismith College Player Of The Year award prior to entering into NBA draft process alongside brother Joey Hauser who declared himself eligible together with Sam after last college season ended due COVID restrictions . Because of their success as teammates both Hausers were invited by Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski to take part in Duke’s pre NBA Draft camp .
Finally , after ending up not getting drafted during previous offseason , Atlanta Hawks decided sign him up mid way through 2021 NBA regular season when they became aware that they need some help downs low ; starting shooting guard Bogdan Bogdanovic got injured right before beginning stretch run towards playoffs making them short handed especially considering main center Clint Capela suffered knee injury couple weeks earlier forcing team management go out looking additional front court depth.. Despite limited role given so far , there have been some signs that Atlanta might have gotten themselves real steal undrafted free agent market here if young star continues developing same way did at collegiate level ..
