Jayson Tatum is an American professional basketball player for the Boston Celtics of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was drafted third overall in the 2017 NBA draft by the Celtics after one season at Duke University. Tatum has since become a key contributor to the Celtics and one of their most talented players, making three All-Star appearances and helping them reach three consecutive Eastern Conference Finals from 2018–2020.

Tatum was born on March 3, 1998 in St. Louis, Missouri to Justin and Brandy Cole Tatum. He attended Chaminade College Preparatory School in St. Louis before transferring to Duke for his senior year of high school. During his time at Chaminade, he was named Mr. Show Me Basketball Player of the Year as well as Gatorade Player of the Year for Missouri after averaging over 25 points per game during his junior season while leading his team to a state title win that same year In 2016–17 with Duke, he averaged 16.8 points per game while shooting 45 percent from beyond the arc en route to becoming ACC Rookie of The Year honors and first-team all-conference selection during his lone collegiate season before declaring himself eligible for NBA draft upon its conclusion
