Simmons’s interest in basketball began during his time at St. Francis High School in Milton, Georgia. Here, Simmons’s skills began to flourish. In his first year, he established an average of 14.1 points, 3.9 assists, 2.7 rebounds, and 2.0 steals per game. During his sophomore year in 2013-14, he boosted these averages to 17.4 points, 4.8 assists, and 3.5 rebounds per game. As a junior, he averaged 21.2 points per game, delivering impressive performances in the 2015 Under Armour Elite 24 Game in Brooklyn, New York. This success secured invitations to prestigious camps like the Adidas Nations and Adidas Euro-camps.

Simmons’s senior year saw even greater improvement as his average rose to 26.0 points per game. In his final game as a Knight, he scored a breathtaking 36 points, making seven three-pointers against Milton High School. During his high school tenure, Simmons led St. Francis to an impressive 100 victories, two state championships, and four state championship appearances. In honor of his contributions, his number was retired at St. Francis.

Following his triumphant high school career, Simmons committed to the Arizona Wildcats for his collegiate basketball career. During his debut NCAA event, Simmons tied the most points in a decade for an Arizona player’s debut, leading to a victory against the 12th ranked Michigan State. His freshman year featured many highlights, including recording 20 points and helping the Wildcats to win the Pac-12 Conference Championship. He played 37 games in this freshman year, with a commendable average of 8.7 points.

Despite having three more years of college eligibility, Simmons declared for the NBA draft on April 5, 2017, a decision that propelled him to the professional level. He spent significant time with the Grizzlies and their G League affiliate, the Memphis Hustle. During this stint, Simmons averaged 6.1 points, 2.1 assists, and 1.6 rebounds per contest. However, he eventually parted ways with the team when the Grizzlies waived him on August 28, 2018.

Later, Simmons signed a deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers in September 2018 but was waived by the team within weeks. He then joined the Cavs’ G League affiliate, the Canton Charge, and subsequently signed a 10-day contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers in January 2019, only to be waived once again in February.

The Charlotte Hornets picked up Simmons in September 2019 and converted his contract into a two-way one in October the same year. The following season, he returned to the G League, joining the Greensboro Swarm and averaging 18 points per game.

In 2021, Simmons signed with Stal Ostrów Wielkopolski of the Polish Basketball League before being named to the opening night roster for the Greensboro Swarm on November 4, 2022. He secured one more opportunity with the NBA when he signed a two-way contract with the Charlotte Hornets in March 2023, but this was short-lived as he was waived in August. Simmons then signed with Raptors 905, where he averaged, 15.9 points in 23 games.

In 2024, Simmons signed a 10-day contract with the Toronto Raptors before moving to play for the Israeli Basketball Premier League’s Maccabi Tel Aviv. His stay with Maccabi was brief, as he was released after the 2024 preseason when the team decided not to renew his contract.
