His basketball journey began in the small town of Eustis, Florida, and his exceptional skills and determination have now taken him to the significant and highly celebrated platform of the National Basketball Association (NBA) where he plays for the Sacramento Kings.

Ellis’ passion for basketball was evident from an early age, and he utilized his high school years to hone his skills and make a name for himself. Initially, he played at Eustis High School in his hometown but then transferred to Leesburg High School for his junior season. His command of the game was pivotal in leading Leesburg to secure back-to-back Class 6A state titles thereby highlighting his leadership prowess. As a senior, Ellis showcased his versatility with an average of 12.7 points, 11 rebounds, and two assists per game which significantly contributed to his team boasting an outstanding 29-1 record.

Despite having an opportunity to play college basketball for Gardner–Webb, Ellis decided to pursue his academic ambitions at Florida SouthWestern, and opted for its junior college program. This decision proved beneficial not only for his academic career but also his sporting career. In his freshman year, his ability to consistently score 8.3 points and clinch three rebounds per game earned him the coveted Second Team All-Suncoast Conference honors. Highlighting his potential further, Ellis broke school records by scoring a whopping 41 points in a win against St. Petersburg College on January 4, 2020.

The talented player continued on his upward trajectory by setting new benchmarks in his sophomore season with an average of 18.1 points, 2.2 assists, and adding 2.1 steals per game, earning recognition as Second Team NJCAA Division I All-American and Suncoast Player of the Year. Ellis’ journey then led him to the University of Alabama, where he decided to spend his junior season, selecting the Crimson Tide over other notable options which included Iowa State, Kansas State, and Western Kentucky.

During his junior season with Alabama, Ellis showcased persistent productivity on the court by averaging 5.5 points and four rebounds per game. His defensive prowess was particularly noticed in his senior season when he was named to the SEC All-Defensive Team. With 12.1 points, 6.1 rebounds, and two steals on average per game, Ellis displayed remarkable growth in his game.

However, the real turning point in his career came in 2022. Despite going undrafted in the 2022 NBA draft, Ellis never faltered. His defining moment arrived on July 2, 2022, when he signed a two-way contract with the prestigious Sacramento Kings. His remarkable talent was seen during his seven appearances in the 2022 NBA summer league, where he averaged an impressive 11.4 points, with a shooting average of 44.1% from the field and 46.9% from the three-point range.

Recognizing this talented player’s worth, Sacramento Kings signed another two-way contract with Ellis on July 2, 2023, which paved the way for a multi-year contract on February 9, 2024. Ellis continued to show his class and potential by scoring a career-high 26 points in his encounter against Oklahoma City Thunder on April 9. Shortly there after, his impressive performance of 15 points, five assists, four rebounds, three steals, and three blocks led to a play-in tournament victory over the Golden State Warriors, assisting the Kings solidify their position.
