Devin Carter Bio
Devin Carter, born on March 18, 2002, is an esteemed American basketball player who currently plays for the Sacramento Kings in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He launched his basketball career while studying and playing for South Carolina Gamecocks and later at Providence Friars—two remarkable institutions with high-profile basketball programs. Carter’s journey from a high-school player to a professional NBA star has been nothing short of impressive and inspiring.
Carter was born and spent his early childhood in Greenwood Village, Colorado. His interest and talent in basketball became apparent during his time at Cherry Creek High School. But the early development phase of Carter’s basketball career underwent a significant shift after his freshman year when his family decided to move to Florida. This move was necessitated by his father, Anthony Carter, receiving an attractive offer to work as a player development coach for the Miami Heat.
While the move took Carter away from Colorado, it put him in Doral Academy Preparatory School in Doral, Florida. Carter used this opportunity to hone his basketball skills further. He continued to impress coaches and peers, showing everyone his capability on the basketball court.
However, Carter’s final school year at Doral Academy was prematurely concluded due to an unfortunate shoulder injury. This setback didn’t discourage him; instead, he decided to enroll at Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, to continue his education and basketball training in a postgraduate year. Carter’s relentless commitment toward improving his game continued to shine, earning him the status of a three-star recruit during his senior year. Moreover, his hard work did not go unnoticed, as he committed to playing college basketball for South Carolina.
Carter’s South Carolina phase kicked off his college career, where he played in 30 games during his freshman year, achieving an average of nine points and 3.8 rebounds per game. However, after the season concluded, Carter decided to enter the NCAA transfer portal, seeking new challenges and opportunities to broaden his skills.
This search led him to Providence, where he continued to thrive. In his first season with the Friars, Carter marked his presence with an outstanding average of 13 points and 4.9 rebounds. Unsurprisingly, his outstanding performance extended into his subsequent year at Providence. Carter ended up winning both the prestigious titles of Big East First Team and Big East Player of the Year in his second season, which put him on the radar for many professional teams.
Carter’s talent was officially recognized on June 26, 2024, as he was selected as the thirteenth overall pick by the Sacramento Kings in the 2024 NBA draft. He officially entered the realm of professional basketball on July 9, followed by his signing with the Kings.
Today, Devin Carter is not only recognized for his excellent basketball skills, but also for the extraordinary journey he has had. Born to Anthony and Cassie Carter, and a fond brother to Joshua, Carter is the embodiment of family values, courage, and commitment to pursuing his passion. His story is a testament to his never-back-down attitude and a motivation for countless young basketball hopefuls around the world.
