Boogie Ellis

Rejean “Boogie” Ellis, born on the 12th day of December in the year 2000, is a well-regarded figure in the professional basketball landscape. Currently playing for the Stockton Kings of the NBA G League, Ellis has carved out quite a memorable resume in his career that dates back to college days when he played for Memphis and USC.

Ellis’ basketball career began in high school at Mission Bay High School. His four years there proved to be pivotal in shaping the player he was destined to be. Emerging as a remarkable talent, Ellis gained recognition within recruiting circles. As a consensus four-star recruit, he was one of the top players in the 2019 class according to all major evaluating services.

On November 9, 2018, Ellis made a significant move for his basketball career. He announced his commitment to playing college basketball for Duke. However, within a few months, a shift in his prospective journey occured. On May 2, 2019, Ellis requested Duke to release his letter of intent, subsequently strewing open a vast array of choices of other schools for his attendance. His decision was driven by the ambition to become the starting point guard for the Blue Devils. The return of Tre Jones played an instrumental part in his decision.

Within a few days, Ellis made another headline in his career by committing to another college basketball powerhouse Memphis, on May 13, 2019. Ellis was off to a remarkable start with a game-high 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting in an 83–78 win over NC State. His performance didn’t go unnoticed as he was named the American Athletic Conference freshman of the week on December 2, 2019. He had his share of challenges too, as he struggled with his shooting form and was relegated to a bench role.

However, despite the minor setbacks, Ellis had an impressive freshman year, with an average of eight points and 3.3 rebounds per game. More career-high achievements were still on the way. On November 25, 2020, Ellis scored a career-high 24 points in a game against Saint Mary’s.

As time went on, Ellis’ career took another turn. He entered the transfer portal on March 31, 2021, and soon after on April 12, he announced a transfer to USC. His transfer to USC proved rewarding when he was titled Honorable Mention All-Pac-12 as a junior.

Despite not being drafted in the 2024 NBA Draft, Ellis remained resilient. He joined the Sacramento Kings for the 2024 NBA Summer League, and on September 16, he made it official by signing with the Kings. However, due to the ruthless competition of the sport, he was waived on October 18. Not letting this deter his spirit, Ellis joined the Stockton Kings on October 27, marking another chapter in his passionate baseball journey.
