Isaiah Mobley's Biography

Eric Isaiah Mobley, born on September 24, 1999, is one of the promising figures in the world of professional basketball. Today, he is known as a trusted player for the Delaware Blue Coats, which is part of the NBA G League. However, his journey to get to where he is has been filled with relentless hard work, undeniable talent, and an unshakeable will to succeed.

Born and raised in Temecula, California, Mobley developed a passion for basketball at an early age. He attended Rancho Christian School where his stunning performances on the court proved he was destined for great things. As a freshman, he led his school to its first-ever CIF Southern Section (CIF-SS) Division 5A title – a commendable achievement given it was their first in any sport. He also helped the team reach the CIF Division V Southern California Regional final.

Mobley’s average of 16.2 points and 10.4 rebounds per game earned him shared honors as the CIF-SS Division 5A Player of the Year and a spot on The Press-Enterprise All-Area second team. Over summer vacations, he continued honing his skills with Compton Magic, one of the top travel teams in the country.

Interestingly, Mobley’s basketball journey involves a family subplot. His younger brother, Evan Mobley, joined him on the Rancho Christian basketball team during his sophomore year. This brother duo boosted the team’s performance, helping them reach the CIF-SS Division 2A semifinal.

The subsequent two years saw Mobley continue to deliver outstanding performances. As a senior, he averaged 19.4 points, 13.6 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game, leading his team to a remarkable 26-6 record. At the end of his high school career, Mobley bagged a spot in the 2019 McDonald’s All-American Game, cementing his status as the best 2019 class prospect in California.

On May 28, 2018, Mobley committed to playing college basketball for the University of Southern California (USC), rejecting several offers from other NCAA Division I programs. During his debut for USC, he scored 17 points and seven rebounds, leading the Trojans to a remarkable victory over Florida A&M.

While at USC, Mobley consistently impressed both his coaches and spectators. He averaged 9.9 points and 7.3 rebounds as a sophomore and 14.2 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 3.3 assists as a junior. His exceptional performances earned him a spot on the All-Pac-12 first-team. On April 11, 2022, Mobley decided to forgo his remaining college eligibility and entered the 2022 NBA draft.

Mobley’s professional basketball career started when the Cleveland Cavaliers picked him with their 49th overall pick. He initially signed to a two-way contract, dividing his time between the Cavaliers and their NBA G League affiliate, the Cleveland Charge. In the G League’s inaugural Next Up Game for the 2022–23 season, Mobley earned a well-deserved spot.

In July 2023, Mobley extended his two-way contract with the Cavaliers. While playing for them in the 2023 NBA Summer League, he averaged impressive stats that included 17.4 points, 8.3 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.5 blocks across six games. His exceptional outing, which included 28 points and 11 rebounds in the Championship game, led his team to victory.

In 2024, Mobley signed with the Philadelphia 76ers but was waived later that October. Undeterred, he joined the Delaware Blue Coats, where he continues to be a dominant force in professional basketball.

Beyond the court, Mobley shares a deep-rooted bond with basketball through his family. His father, Eric, played college basketball for Cal Poly Pomona and Portland, post which, he pursued a professional basketball career in international leagues. He later became a coach for Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) basketball for 11 years and was hired by USC in 2018. His brother Evan, who was drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers a year before him, remains his closest confidante and strongest competitor in the game.
