Dereon Seabron's Biography
Dereon Seabron, born May 26, 2000, is a proficient American professional basketball player currently signed with the Motor City Cruise of the NBA G League. A native of Virginia, Seabron first made an impression during his high school years. He showcased his ball-handling skills and demonstrated an exceptional knack for scoring and rebounding at Lake Taylor High School in Norfolk, Virginia.
Beginning his sophomore year, Seabron played an instrumental role in advancing his team to the 4A state title game, an impressive feat for a player at such a young stage in his career. His junior season witnessed a significant progression in his skill set where he averaged 17.2 points and seven rebounds per game.
Entering his senior year, he showcased more maturity and dominance on the court. He averaged an impressive 22.5 points and 11 rebounds per game, leading Lake Taylor to its inaugural state championship. Quietly leaving his mark, he was recognized as 4A Player of the Year and All-Tidewater Player of the Year.
Following high school, Seabron decided to take a different route from most players. He chose a postgraduate season at Massanutten Military Academy in Woodstock, Virginia, aiming to attract more attention from college programs. The decision turned fruitful with him becoming a four-star recruit and receiving numerous offers from established college basketball programs. In April 2019, he committed to playing college basketball for NC State after considering offers from Georgia, Pittsburgh, Providence, and VCU.
Seabron’s journey at NC State began with a challenging start, as he was redshirted during his first season due to academic ineligibility, as ruled by the NCAA. Despite this setback, he made a sensational debut in the regular season finale against Notre Dame, scoring a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds which earned him the title of ACC Freshman of the Week. He finished his freshman year with an average of 5.2 points and 3.5 rebounds per game.
His sophomore year was a banner season for Seabron. On December 1, 2021, he registered a career-high tally of 39 points and 18 rebounds in a tightly fought 104-100 victory against Nebraska in quadruple overtime. This stellar performance broke the ACC-Big Ten Challenge single-game scoring record, setting a new benchmark in the leagues’ history.
Apart from individual accolades, Seabron’s 39-point outing was also historic for NC State, marking the highest points scored in a single game by a player since T.J. Warren’s 42 points against Boston College in 2014. His sophomore year saw him claiming the ACC Most Improved Player title, and he also made the Second Team All-ACC.
Despite his illustrious college career, Seabron went undrafted in the 2022 NBA draft. However, he was not deterred, eventually signing a two-way contract with the New Orleans Pelicans on September 9, 2022. He saw a brief downtime when the Pelicans waived him on April 6, 2023, but was immediately re-signed on April 9 to another two-way contract.
September 17, 2024, marked a new chapter in Seabron’s professional career when he signed with the Detroit Pistons. However, a month later, the Pistons waived him. Undeterred by the professional upheaval, Seabron landed another deal to join the Motor City Cruise on October 29.
Today, as Dereon Seabron continues to rise and refine his game, his journey is a powerful narrative of resilience, grit, and elevating success. His enduring tale serves as an inspiration to numerous young talents across the basketball world.
