Ausar Thompson Bio
As of September 16, 2026, Ausar Thompson is listed by the NBA as a Detroit Pistons guard-forward. Born January 30, 2003, Thompson stands 6 feet 7 inches tall and weighs 205 pounds. He entered the NBA after playing for Overtime Elite rather than attending college.
Thompson was selected by Detroit with the fifth pick in the first round of the 2023 NBA Draft. Before entering the NBA, he played for Overtime Elite’s Team Elite and City Reapers. The NBA’s draft profile identifies him as a player who won an OTE championship and Finals MVP honors with Team Elite, then earned OTE MVP recognition with City Reapers.
His professional identity has been built around defensive versatility, athleticism, rebounding and disruptive playmaking from the wing. Those qualities were recognized when Thompson was named to the 2025-26 Kia NBA All-Defensive First Team, an honor announced by the Detroit Pistons. He became the first Piston selected to that first team since 2015-16, according to the club’s announcement.
