Tyron Woodley Bio
Tyron Woodley is one of the best welterweight fighters in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, or UFC. He holds a professional record of 19-4-1 and has held both interim and undisputed titles. Tyron’s career began when he joined American Top Team, where he trained with renowned coaches like Dino Costeas and Mike Brown. His amateur MMA career was relatively short, but it still included five wins before turning pro in 2009.
After making his debut for Strikeforce later that year, Tyron scored his first win with a submission victory over Sal Woods at “Strikeforce: Challengers 8” in 2010. He went on to fight six more times in Strikeforce during the next two years before being signed by the UFC in 2013. In 2014 he faced Carlos Condit at UFC 171 for Interim Welterweight Champion title which he won via unanimous decision (UD). The win earned him an undisputed championship match against Robbie Lawler at UFC 181 which resulted in another UD victory that made him champion of the welterweight division. Later on, Tyron successfully defended his title three times against Kelvin Gastelum, Demian Maia and Stephen Thompson – although only one was successful as the other two ended as majority draws (MD).
In 2018 Tyron faced Kamaru Usman at UFC 235 for another attempt to defend his belt but ultimately lost via UD call from judges after 5 rounds of fighting; this marked a turning point for Woodley who hasn’t managed to regain championship status since then despite putting up impressive performances against Colby Covington and Gilbert Burns (both resulting in UD victories). Despite these setbacks however no one can doubt his skill as an MMA fighter – whether it be striking or grappling – but also as an analyst who regularly provides insightful commentary during major fights alongside fellow champions Daniel Cormier & Michael Bisping among others! It remains to be seen what lies ahead for this remarkable 37 year old athlete – however if past successes are anything go by then we are sure there will plenty more accomplishments left yet!
