Nathaniel Wood is a British mixed martial artist and former Cage Warriors bantamweight champion currently competing in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). He is known for his aggressive striking style, which has earned him several victories by knockout or technical knockout.
Wood was born on April 16, 1993 in Ealing, London. His father was involved in martial arts when he was younger but never competed himself. Naturally drawn to the sport from an early age, Wood began training at the age of 12 and soon joined a local gym where he trained BJJ and Muay Thai under coach Mark Cooper. After graduating high school in 2008, Wood decided to pursue professional MMA as his career choice.
In 2013, Wood made his professional debut with Cage Warriors Fighting Championship (CWFC). Quickly proving himself as a rising star with four consecutive wins via KO/TKO before signing with CWFC full time later that year. In 2015 he won their vacant bantamweight title by defeating James Pennington via unanimous decision which lead him to being awarded โ2015 Fighter Of The Yearโ award at CWFC Awards Ceremony 2016. During this time he also acted as a cornerman for teammate Makwan Amirkhani during several events including UFC Fight Night Rotterdam and UFC Fight Night London 2017 โ both held in England.
After winning the interim featherweight title at CWFC 92: Miracle vs Morris 2 against Josh Reed โ Nathaniel signed with the UFC towards late 2018 making it official announcement January 2019 that would move up one weight class into featherweight division while still fighting out of Team Titans Gym alongside Amirkhani & Pannie Kianzad in Stockholm Sweden as well other members of Team Titans Gym such as Max Nunes & Martin Svensson . Since joining the promotion Nathaniel has put together 3-2 record Inching closer towards becoming another English Champion inside octagon after having Dan Hardy & Michael Bisping succeed prior him . He Has notable wins over John Castaneda , Ryan Islander & Geraldo de Freitas Jr who were all finished within first two rounds .
Currently Nathaniel holds rank #15 spot inside featherweight division rankings behind some big names such Frankie Edgar , Petr Yan & Yair Rodriguez just to name few . With great support from his teammates around world coming off three win streak Nathaniel hopes to continue push forward break into top ten contenders list come 2021 if not sooner depending how current pandemic affects remaining 2020 calendar year schedule
