Fares Ziam is an up and coming French mixed martial artist who competes in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). He has quickly emerged as one of the most promising prospects in the UFC, with impressive wins over established veterans like Artem Lobov and Marcin Held. The 25-year-old lightweight fighter currently holds a professional record of 11-2, with his only defeats coming at the hands of highly ranked opponents – former Bellator champion Patricio Freire and #3 ranked Dan Hooker.
Born in France to Moroccan parents, Fares began training in martial arts when he was just 8 years old. His early martial arts career included Muay Thai kickboxing, boxing, judo and karate before transitioning to freestyle wrestling which became his primary fighting style during his college days at Rennes University where he trained for two years under Jean Pierre Fontaine. After graduating from university with a diploma in physical education, Fares decided to pursue a career as an MMA fighter instead of pursuing teaching or coaching roles full time.
In 2016 he joined La Gente Martial Arts gym in Atizapan de Zaragoza Mexico where he trained alongside fighters like Yair Rodriguez and Nick Diaz. This proved to be one of the best decisions of his fighting career as it opened many doors for him including signing for Combate Americas’s struggling flyweight division where he went on to win 4 consecutive fights against tough opposition such as Jesus Ramirez and Greg Hernandez before finally making it into UFC by submitting Bobby Moffett at Fight Night 139 Denver Colorado 2018 via guillotine choke submission after 3 rounds.
Since then Ziam’s journey has been nothing short of inspiring – debuting against undefeated Jordan Griffin at Fight Night 153 Stockholm 2019 winning via unanimous decision – followed by back to back victories over Lobov & Held pushing him up the lightweight rankings further establishing himself as one of its most exciting prospects going forward due to his well rounded fight game mixing & matching techniques borrowed from multiple disciplines such as Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Judo Karate Boxing & Wrestling making him unpredictable & hard hitting both on feet & ground thus proving worthy opponent even for top 15 Lightweights currently competing in UFC’s 155 lbs division today while being always willing take part entertaining match ups always delivering high octane performances displaying heart , courage , skill all things MMA fans love see inside Octagon !
