BIOGRAPHY
Eddie Wineland is an American Mixed Martial Artist who fights in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). He is a former World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) Bantamweight Champion. He was born on August 1, 1984 in Chesterton, Indiana.
Wineland has been competing since 2005 and began his professional career with a fourteen-fight winning streak. During this time, he went undefeated and won championships in several promotions such as XFO and MFC. He made his WEC debut at WEC 14: Vengeance against Antonio Banuelos where he earned a unanimous decision victory to win the vacant bantamweight championship belt. After defending his title once more against Manny Tapia, Wineland eventually lost it to Brian Bowles at WEC 22: The Hitman in December of 2008 via TKO stoppage due to punches.
Following his loss Wineland departed from WEC and joined UFC where he made his debut against Urijah Faber for the Interim Bantamweight Championship at UFC 128: Shogun vs Jones in March of 2011 which he lost by Unanimous Decision after five rounds of battle. After only one more fight with Joseph Benavidez that same year which ended up being another Unanimous Decision loss, Eddie seemed to have found himself when it came to competing inside the octagon as evidenced by him going undefeated for four fights until suffering another slow defeat due to leg kicks delivered by John Dodson during their rematch at UFC Fight Night 42 back in 2014.. This kicked off an uphill journey towards achieving success again as seven out of eight bouts were marked by wins before facing Cory Sandhagen who defeated him via submission just last October 2020 during UFC Fight Island 4 event despite having landed some solid head kicks prior that almost resulted into knocking out Sandhagen earlier into round two while they compete within Flyweight Division category these days .
Wineland currently stands 37-15-1 record throughout his entire fighting career but still continues look forward toward upcoming showdowns since entering forty years old earlier this month plus even though most expect him slowing down soon , yet Eddie’s performance remain surprisingly consistent so far without any signs of weakening thus far .
