Perez quickly rose up the amateur ranks, competing in El Salvador and Mexico and compiling a record of 17-4-1 with 12 finishes by either knockout or submission. In 2012 he made his professional debut for Mexico’s Combate Extreme promotion and went 6-1 over the next two years to earn himself a shot at Tachi Palace Fights’ bantamweight championship.
