John Castaneda is a professional Mixed Martial Artist and fighter currently competing in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Castaneda was born on August 31, 1990 in San Antonio, Texas. He began his martial arts training at the age of eight when he took up tae kwon do. After gaining a black belt in tae kwon do, Castaneda shifted to boxing and Muay Thai before eventually transitioning into Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).

Castaneda made his professional MMA debut in 2009 where he quickly earned success with four consecutive wins. He later moved to Las Vegas, Nevada to join Xtreme Couture and continue honing his craft as an MMA fighter. In 2013 he began fighting for Titan Fighting Championships and won three fights under that promotion before signing with Resurrection Fighting Alliance (RFA) 18 months later.

During this period of time, Castaneda also competed on Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series where he defeated Vince Morales via submission due to armbar in the first round which led to him being signed by UFC shortly after. Since joining UFC in 2018, John has had two official fights – one win against Eddie Wineland at UFC Fight Night: Cejudo vs Dillashaw which earned him “Performance of the night” honors; and one loss against Manny Bermudez at UFC Fight Night: Edgar vs Korean Zombie last March 2020.

When not busy training or spending time with family; John volunteers at local elementary schools teaching kids how discipline can help you find success inside & outside the octagon!
