Roxanne Modafferi is an American mixed martial artist and professional wrestler currently competing in the UFC’s flyweight division. Born on September 24, 1982, in Winchester, Virginia, Modafferi began her career as a judoka before transitioning to MMA in 2003. She has gone on to become one of the most successful female competitors in the sport’s history.

Raised by loving parents who encouraged her to pursue sports from a young age, Modafferi played soccer for several years before finding her way into martial arts at age 12. After being introduced to judo by a friend’s mother when she was 16, she quickly rose up the ranks and went on to win multiple national championships as well as numerous medals at international tournaments such as the Pan-American Games and World Championships. It was during this time that she developed an interest in grappling and ultimately decided to switch over to MMA after graduating high school with honors.

Modafferi made her pro debut in 2003 with RINGS USA and accumulated a 5-1 record over the next two years while also competing for organizations like Smackgirl and DEEP Jewels Japan Women’s Grand Prix along the way. In 2006, she made her move into The Ultimate Fighter world with an invitation from Spike TV where she became known for her wrestling skills despite being eliminated by eventual winner Tara LaRosa early on.
