BIOGRAPHY

Cynthia Calvillo is an American mixed martial artist currently competing in the UFC’s strawweight division. She began her professional MMA career in 2014 and has since compiled a 9-1-1 record, with notable victories over Cortney Casey and Carla Esparza.

Calvillo was born and raised in San Jose, California where she attended Archbishop Mitty High School. As a child, Calvillo developed a passion for wrestling which quickly evolved into an interest in MMA when she became acquainted with Gilbert Melendez’s gym near her hometown of Stockton, CA at the age of 20. With the help of Melendez’s gym and coaches Mike Browning and Brendan Uyeno, Calvillo transitioned from an amateur to a professional fighter within six months.

In 2016, after just two years as a pro MMA athlete, Calvillo joined the ranks at Invicta FC – one of the top all-female fighting organizations – where she competed four times before joining the UFC roster in 2017. Her debut came against Amanda Cooper at UFC 209 where she won by submission due to rear naked choke late in round three; this victory earned her “Fight Of The Night” honors alongside Cooper. Following this win Calvillo went on to defeat Pearl Gonzalez by unanimous decision at UFC 210 before stepping up once again against former Strawweight champion Esparza at UFC 215 where she won by rear naked choke early into round three; earning another “Performance Of The Night” bonus award along with it.

After suffering her first loss to Poliana Botelho via split decision (which was later overturned due to Botelho testing positive for marijuana) during their fight at UFC Fight Night 128 back in April 2018 ,Calvillo faced off against Cortney Casey (who was coming off from wins over Randa Markos & Gillian Robertson) during their main card bout on FOX Sports 1: Alvarez vs Poirier 2 back on July 28th 2018 ; emerging victorious once again via majority judges decision .

Most recently , Cynthia defeated Marina Rodriguez via split judges decision following their main event women’s Flyweight bout during Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series 13 back on August 7th 2018 . This marked Cynthia’s first ever 3 round main event fight as well as being featured inside Televised Network Television ; now being considered one of latest lightweights prospects within Women’s MMA scene today .

Up next , Cynthia will be facing off fellow Brazilian Jiu Jitsu practitioner Poliana Botelho once again (this time without any controversy )during their upcoming pay per view co -main event bout scheduled set take place inside Honda Center located Anaheim California this Satuday December 15th 2018 . A rematch that could potentially catapult either fighter towards becoming number one contender position within Women’s 115 pound division within near future should they both emerge victorious come fight night tomorrow evening ..
