Zavier Scott Bio
Zavier Scott’s journey to American professional football is a story of hard work, determination, and a passion for the game. Born on July 17, 1999, at the United States Army base Fort Hood, now known as Fort Cavazos, in Texas, Scott would go on to become an impressive running back for the Minnesota Vikings in the National Football League (NFL).
From an early age, Scott was introduced to a transient way of life, largely a result of his father’s service in the Army. His family relocated multiple times throughout his childhood. They lived in various states such as Tennessee, Kentucky, and Virginia. Interestingly, Zavier has also lived outside the United States, with Germany featuring on his list of residences. Through these relocations, young Scott had the unique opportunity of experiencing different cultures and ways of life.
While attending Vilseck High School in Germany, Zavier’s love for American football was ignited. He relished the opportunity to play against teams from U.S. military bases dotted across Europe. This experience offered Zavier not just a platform to hone his skills, but also the first taste of competitive sports.
In 2017, Scott took his first step toward a professional career in Football by joining the University of Connecticut. His freshman year was a learning experience, as he was redshirted and learned about the intricacies of the game. After this initiation year, he established himself as a versatile player, playing as both a running back and wide receiver. Over 2018 and 2019, he participated in fourteen highly competitive games.
Despite his growing success at the University of Connecticut, Zavier decided to transfer to the University of Maine in 2020. This switch saw him sitting out the classically fall football season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In spring 2021, he finally made his debut for the Maine Black Bears. Here, he showcased his wide breadth of talents by featuring not just as a running back and wide receiver, but also serving as a kick returner. He additionally flexed his versatility by taking occasional snaps at tight end and quarterback positions in the Wildcat formation. Over the next two years, Zavier played in 22 games, and his stellar performance in 2022 earned him a spot on the third-team all-Colonial Athletic Association Football Conference as a fullback/halfback.
Despite his impressive college football career, Zavier went undrafted in the 2023 NFL draft, a fact he took in stride. On April 29, 2023, he signed with the Indianapolis Colts. After joining the Colts practice squad in October, Zavier got the chance to make history when the Colts went up against the New England Patriots in NFL’s first-ever game held in Germany. It must have been a full-circle moment for Scott, playing professional football in the country where he graduated high school.
Zavier signed a reserve/futures contract with the Colts on January 8, 2024, but was waived in August that same year. However, he didn’t stay off the grid for long — two days later, Zavier signed with the Minnesota Vikings practice squad. Today, Scott, a man whose life has been marked by constant movement and change, takes the field in a Vikings jersey and continues to solidify his place in the world of American Professional Football.
