Born on July 20, 1996, Tremon Smith is an inspiring and skilled professional American football player. Known for his incredible gameplay as a cornerback and kick returner, he currently contributes his talents to the Denver Broncos, a prominent team part of the National Football League (NFL). Smith’s football journey started in his early youth and has since led to a prosperous career. He embarked on his professional journey when he was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs during the 2018 NFL draft.

Smith’s early life was deeply embedded in football, marked by noteworthy performances during his high school and college years. Residing in Saks, Alabama, Smith attended Saks High School and became a pivotal part of his high school’s football team. In 2013, paralleling the spirit of a versatile all-rounder, Smith led his team to the AHSAA Class 4A semis in multiple positions including quarterback, safety, kick returner, and punt returner. His passion for football persisted, and he extended it into his college life.

Smith further polished his skills and harnessed his talent while playing college football at Central Arkansas. In the span of four years, Smith recorded 15 interceptions, demonstrating his exceptional defensive skills. His performance in 2017 was particularly impressive, where he registered 41 tackles and five interceptions. This earned him a third-team Football Championship Subdivision All-American selection, acknowledging his superior talent in football.

In 2018, Smith was drafted in the sixth round by the Kansas City Chiefs (196th overall). During his rookie season, Smith primarily played on special teams, specifically excelling as a kick returner. Still, he explored his potential on defense, winning chances to perform as a cornerback. Throughout the 2018 season, he showcased exceptional skills by documenting 33 returns for 886 yards, carrying an impressive average of 26.8 yards per return. Ahead of the 2019 season, Smith underwent a positional change from cornerback to running back by the Chiefs. He was claimed off waivers by the Green Bay Packers within days of being released by the Chiefs and was later waived on October 14, 2019. He signed to their practice squad two days later but was promoted to the active roster by the end of October. However, he was waived shortly thereafter.

On December 4, 2019, Smith was welcomed into the Philadelphia Eagles practice squad. The following year, he was offered a reserve/future contract with the Eagles. However, Smith was waived by this team in July 2020. Following this, Smith landed a spot with the Indianapolis Colts in mid-August 2020. After being waived again in early September and re-signed to the team’s practice squad, Smith shortly made his way back to the active roster later that month.

His talent was recognized by the Houston Texans, prompting them to sign him on March 22, 2021. He then enjoyed a successful season as a core special teamer, even earning a contract extension on December 3, 2021. His Week 15 performance was particularly stellar, featuring a 98-yard kick return touchdown. Additionally, his strategic play led to a punt getting downed within the five-yard line, which resulted in a significant 30-16 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.
