Sage Surratt's Biography

Born on April 13th, 1998, Sage Surratt is an accomplished American professional football player. He plays as a tight end, a position that demands a complete range of physical capabilities, and, as of now, is a free agent. The journey of his football career has been rich with experiences that have shaped him as an athlete, positioning him as one of the rising stars in the sport. Surratt’s unwavering commitment and deep passion for the game have made him a player to watch in the ever-competitive field of professional football.

His hometown is Lincolnton, North Carolina, where he first developed an interest in football. As a young boy, he would play in local fields, teaching himself the ropes of the game. From an early age, his passion for the sport was undeniable. After attending East Lincoln High School, where he honed these skills and gained invaluable experience, he made a strategic decision to transfer to Lincolnton High School for his senior year.

During this time, Surratt was not only actively engaged in football but also showcased exceptional talent in basketball, making him a formidable sportsperson. His skill and determination led him to become an All-Conference selection during all of his four seasons in both these sports. His football stats were outstanding, setting state records with 366 receptions, 5,926 yards, and 80 touchdown receptions, making him a player to look out for even in his early days.

Surratt’s basketball career was equally commendable. He finished as the second-leading scorer in the history of North Carolina with a whopping 2,951 points.

Surratt attended Wake Forest, setting the stage for his future in professional football. He redshirted his true freshman season, a strategic move that paid off his redshirt freshman season, when he was the Demon Deacons’ second leading receiver. He commenced his collegiate career strong by being named the Rookie of the Week by Atlantic Coast Conference for having caught 11 passes for 150 yards against Tulane.

His display of talent and perseverance led him to be named to the Fred Biletnikoff Award watchlist during his redshirt sophomore season. During this time, he also became the first player from a Power Five conference to accumulate over 1,000 receiving yards. Yet, the season was not without its challenges. In one of the most awaited matches of the season against Virginia Tech, Surratt suffered from a season-ending shoulder injury. Despite the setback, his performance that season with 1,001 yards on 66 receptions and 11 touchdowns led him to be named a semifinalist for the Biletnikoff Award and first team All-ACC.

After contemplating entering the 2020 NFL draft, Surratt decided to return to Wake Forest for his junior season. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, he opted out before the season’s start.

His resilience and determination led him to sign with the Detroit Lions as an undrafted free agent on May 3, 2021. However, he was released on September 15, 2021. A series of short stints followed with the Birmingham Stallions of the United States Football League and the Los Angeles Chargers.

On February 15, 2023, he signed with the New Orleans Breakers of the USFL. The Breakers’ journey was cut short, with the merging of XFL and USFL creating the United Football League. Surratt was quick on his feet and got drafted by the Memphis Showboats during the 2024 UFL dispersal draft. Nonetheless, it was terminated on August 20, 2024 for him to sign with an NFL team.

On August 21, 2024, Surratt was signed by the Arizona Cardinals. However, due to an unfortunate injury, he was waived by the team.

Sage Surratt also comes from a talented family. His older brother, Chazz Surratt, is a stellar linebacker who played for North Carolina and was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the 2021 NFL draft.

While the journey has been eventful and not without its challenges, Sage Surratt’s career in football has been nothing short of remarkable. His sheer will and sense of perseverance have led him through trials and tribulations, and he continues to inspire fellow athletes with his unwavering love for the game. Despite the obstacles he has faced, Sage remains an indomitable spirit within the world of professional football. His journey serves as a testament to the strength of his passion and dedication to the sport.
