BIOGRAPHY

Born on July 27, 1995, Ramiz Ahmed is an accomplished American football kicker, well-recognized for his records and stints with multiple National Football League (NFL) teams. His achievements stretch beyond the boundaries of college football to historical records in the United States Football League (USFL). Ahmed currently stands as a free agent.

Hailing from Las Vegas, Ahmed displayed his athletic prowess at a young age. As a freshman at Faith Lutheran High School, he made his mark on the varsity soccer team. However, it wasn’t until his sophomore year, after transferring to Bishop Gorman High School, that he discovered his talent for football. Displaying undeniable potential, he joined the schools’ football team as a kicker. By 2013, Ahmed was an integral component of the state championship team, boasting an impressive track record of 6 out of 11 field goals, 71 out of 74 PATs, and a staggering 67 touchbacks out of 93 attempts.

Furthermore, Ahmed sought to advance his education, furthering his studies at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), before transferring to Arizona State University (ASU). Although football was not on his agenda at these educational institutions, the sport seemed to be a constant calling for Ahmed. He finally succumbed, transferring once again in January 2017 to the University of Nevada, this time joining the Reno Wolf Pack football team as a walk-on.

His performance, initially riddled with inconsistencies on field goals, did not go unnoticed. Ahmed’s powerful leg strength caught the attention of the special teams coordinator, Tommy Perry. He compared Ahmed’s kicks to the sound of a shotgun going off, a testament to his potential. Graduating to the starting kickoff specialist, Ahmed boasted three touchbacks in three attempts and was crowned the team’s special teams player with academic all-conference honors in his first season.

During his senior year, not only did Ahmed earn a spot as the starting kicker, but he also made 15 out of 20 field goals and 40 out of 44 PATs.

Ahmed’s career significantly advanced in April 2020 when he signed with the Chicago Bears, competing with Eddy Piñeiro. Although, he was waived off by August that year. In March 2022, Ahmed was drafted by the Pittsburgh Maulers of the USFL. His performance peaked when he successfully made a 61-yard field goal against the New Jersey Generals, making history with the longest field goal in USFL history.

By August 2022, he’d signed with the Green Bay Packers, only to be waived off a month later—this time, however, resulting in him being signed to the practice squad. With a sore back interfering with starter Mason Crosby’s performance, Ahmed was called to kick off six times, half of which were touchbacks, and was subsequently elevated to the active roster.

Following a groin injury and a temporary stint with the Birmingham Stallions of the United Football League (UFL), Ahmed was signed by the Washington Commanders in June 2024. His time with the Commanders, however, was short-lived as he was released two months later.

To summarize, Ramiz Ahmed’s career has seen major heights and brief falls. The journey of this talented American football kicker, who transitioned from soccer to making historical records in football, resonates with dedication and commitment to his sport. Currently, as a free agent, Ahmed seeks his next opportunity to continue his journey in American football.
