Ben Sims Bio
Born on May 16, 2000, in America, Ben Sims would soon rise to prominence as a professional football tight end. As he claimed his position within the Green Bay Packers–one of the teams in the National Football League (NFL)–he had already established himself as a force to be reckoned with during his academic years.
Sims spent his high school years at Clark High School, located in San Antonio, Texas. As a senior, he asserted himself as a formidable tight end, and his performances didn’t go unnoticed. He made a remarkable score record: 24 catches, 444 yards, and seven touchdowns. This stellar performance earned him the prestigious title of a three-star recruit.
ESPN, the leading global sports channel, recognized his talent and ranked him the 28th-best tight end nationally. With multiple offers on the table from renowned collegiate teams, including Auburn, Arizona State, and Texas Tech, Sims chose to further his football career with Baylor Bears.
At Baylor, Sims proved himself worthy of his ranking. He played for the Bears for five years, establishing himself as one of the team’s most productive tight ends in history. He kicked off his Baylor career in 2018 by playing three games while redshirting. The following year, he pushed his game count to eight.
Sims’s breakthrough moment was when he became the Baylor Bears’ starter in 2020. He registered 14 receptions for 164 yards and achieved the team’s high of three touchdowns. His first career touchdown would also be a first for any player in his position for the team since 2017.
The dynamo tight end outdid himself in the subsequent season. With 31 catches, 361 yards, and an impressive nine touchdowns, Sims set a record for the most scores for a tight end in Baylor history. For his exceptional performance, he was bestowed with the honorable mention all-conference.
In 2022, Sims returned for his final season. He maintained his game, recording 31 receptions for 255 yards, which earned him the honorable mention all-conference and second-team All-Texas. With these exploits, he wrapped his college football career at Baylor as the team’s all-time leader in touchdowns by a tight end (12). Besides that, he had the second-most receptions (78) and the fourth-most yards (785). Following his final year, he was invited to the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl, where he scored a touchdown.
After Sims went unselected in the 2023 NFL draft, he was signed up as an undrafted free agent by the Minnesota Vikings. In the preseason, he caught three passes amounting to 53 yards, with the longest being 33 yards. However, the Minnesota Vikings decided to waive him during the final roster cuts on August 29, 2023.
Only two days later, on August 31, the Green Bay Packers claimed Sims off waivers. He scored his first touchdown receiving a pass against the Kansas City Chiefs. True to the culture of football, he celebrated with a legendary Lambeau Leap.
