Benjie Franklin Bio
Benjie Franklin is an American football defensive back who currently plays for the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League. The Argonauts’ current roster lists Franklin as an American defensive back wearing number 23, confirming his team affiliation as of September 16, 2026. He signed with Toronto in 2023 and later agreed to a contract extension with the club in December 2025.
Franklin developed at Navarro College before transferring to Tarleton State, where he played defensive back from 2019 through 2021. Tarleton recognized him as a defensive standout, and he earned postseason honors during his college career. His collegiate résumé included impact plays in coverage and on special teams, including interceptions, pass breakups, forced turnovers and blocked-kick contributions.
Franklin entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2022. He subsequently spent time with the Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks before moving to the CFL. His early Toronto appearances established him as a versatile defensive back, and his role expanded into a prominent boundary-corner position. He helped the Argonauts reach the 2024 Grey Cup, producing a notable defensive performance in the championship game. In 2025, he remained a key member of Toronto’s secondary and was retained on a new contract.
