Romeo Izziyh Doubs is a highly accomplished professional American footballer, known for his extraordinary performance as a wide receiver for the Green Bay Packers of the National Football League (NFL). Born on April 13, 2000, Doubs has created a significant impact in the sports industry in a relatively short span of time.
His football journey began with his high school years when he attended Jefferson High School located in Los Angeles. The multifaceted talent excelled in various positions, playing as a quarterback, running back and ultimately as wide receiver. During his senior year, Doubs showcased his athleticism by rushing for 1,757 yards and 28 touchdowns. His impressive prowess also extended to catching 13 passes for 354 yards and five touchdowns. His performance saw him earn a three-star recruit by 247Sports.com and a two-star recruit by Rivals.com.
Recruited by the University of Nevada, Reno following his high school graduation, Doubs embarked on his college football journey. His raw talent and potential were evident from the start, and he went on to break records in the years that followed. As a freshman in 2018, Doubs made tremendous strides, achieving 43 pass receptions, 562 yards, two touchdowns along with returning a punt 80 yards for a touchdown. The maturity in his performance was confirmed in his sophomore season, where he played in ten games and secured 649 yards from 44 receptions for four touchdowns, leading him to be recognized as Nevada’s team MVP.
Doubs’ remarkable evolution in football became more prominent during his junior and senior years. His junior year highlighted a 1,000-yard season coupled with nine touchdowns, earning him a place in the First-team All-Mountain West Conference after leading in receiving yards. In his senior year, Doubs would set a personal record with 80 receptions, 1109 yards, and eleven touchdowns. This outstanding display was recognized once again as he was named to the First team All-Mountain West.
His college career culminated in his decision to forgo participation in the 2021 Quick Lane Bowl and declare for, and be subsequently selected in, the 2022 NFL draft. During his tenure at University, he played 43 games, recording an impressive 225 receptions for 3,322 yards, and 26 touchdowns.
Doubs announced himself onto the professional stage as he was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the fourth round (132nd overall) of the 2022 NFL Draft. He officially went on to sign his four-year rookie contract on May 26, 2022. His consistent performance throughout the rookie training camp impressed both his teammates and coaches.
Doubs demonstrated adeptness in his early NFL career, scoring the first Packers touchdown of the preseason on a 29-yard pass from Jordan Love, a fellow Mountain West alum. Doubs saw his first NFL action in a Week 1 loss against the Minnesota Vikings.
