Marcus Kemp's Biography

Marcus Kemp, the distinguished American football wide receiver and special teamer, was born on August 14, 1995. Currently, he holds the status of a free agent. Kemp has an illustrious past teeming with accomplishments that land him amongst the most promising footballers of his generation. Throughout his career, he has been associated with esteemed clubs such as the Miami Dolphins, the Kansas City Chiefs, the New York Giants, and the Washington Commanders.

During his early life, Kemp observed a solid predilection for football, a life-long love that saw him nurture his skills at the University of Hawaii, playing for the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors. He established his potential during his senior year, in 2016, where he was widely contended as the team’s most valuable player.

Upon finishing college, Kemp seized an opportunity created by the Kansas City Chiefs. They signed him on as an undrafted free agent on May 6, 2017.

However, Kemp’s stint with the Chiefs saw frequent interchange between commitments. He was waived shortly after being signed, on September 2, 2017, but was signed back to the Chiefs’ practice squad the very next day. Before long, Kemp was allocated to the active roster on October 14, 2017. In a surprising turn of events, he was waived and then re-signed back to the practice squad within the space of two days. Despite this, Kemp proved his tenacity by making an eventual return to the active roster on January 2, 2018.

Midway through 2019, Kemp was the victim of an unfortunate injury. On August 20, he was placed on injured reserve following a torn ACL and MCL. Nevertheless, the Chiefs emerged victorious in Super Bowl LIV against the San Francisco 49ers, albeit sans Kemp.

Marcus Kemp proved his worth on the team by returning in full form, resulting in him being re-signed on August 19, 2020. However, he was again transferred between the active roster and the practice squad several times throughout 2020. Despite these obstacles, Kemp earned his second career reception in the sixth week of the season. His prolific performance earned him a promotion to the active roster at the end of November 2020. However, in a startling turn, Kemp was waived mid-December.

Despite the turbulent tenure with the Chiefs, Kemp demonstrated his resilience. He was signed to the Miami Dolphins’ practice squad on December 22, 2020. After consecutive elevations and re-signings, Kemp’s contract finally expired on January 11, 2021. Unfazed by this, Kemp signed with the Kansas City Chiefs practice squad the next day. He subsequently signed back with the Chiefs as an active player for Super Bowl LV against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the AFC Championship game against the Buffalo Bills.

Kemp’s labor bore fruit, and he was rewarded with a re-signing with the Chiefs on March 9, 2021. However, he was momentarily released later in the year, eventually leading him to be placed on the Injured Reserve/COVID-19 list on November 18, 2021.

In a monumental development, on July 26, 2022, Kemp signed with the New York Giants. Shortly after, a hamstring injury had him placed on injured reserve. Despite an untimely release on August 30, Kemp proved his unyielding perseverance by signing with the Kansas City Chiefs on October 3, 2022. He caught a pivotal first-down pass in the 2022 AFC championship, winning his second Super Bowl ring when the Chiefs defeated the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII.

Most recently, on March 3, 2023, Kemp signed with the Washington Commanders. However, he was released as part of final roster cuts before the start of 2023 season on August 28, 2023.
